Just to be clear, can I use the propane bottle sized to my BBQ grill or must it be a tank serving a house?
I need some guidance on a switch for circuit breaker so I can switch the unit on while the power is down and then, switch back safely when it's restored. I don't want to use extension cords running from inside the house to the unit outside the house. Do you have suggestions as to best approach/product that supports your generator?

Answer
First, the size of the propane tank used for the Champion 100297 is typically a 20-30lbs tank that is commonly used with a BBQ grill. Depending on the load applied, you will receive approximately 7 hours of run time on a 50% load (4000 watts) on a 20lbs tank. You are able to connect this to a larger propane tank, (100 + gallon tank), but you will need to have pressure regulators to do so. The advantage to the larger tanks is that you will simply receive much longer run times. The more fuel available the longer the run times you will receive.
As for powering individual circuits safely I'd recommend a manual transfer switch (MTS). The manual transfer switch will allow you to wire individual circuits from your breaker panel to the circuits in the MTS. The MTS will have the circuits in the "line" position while your utility power is running and when the power is lost you can go out and manual flip those breakers from "line" power over to "generator" power. This will allow you to run those wired circuits off of the generator and when the utility power is restored you can turn the generator off and flip the breakers back to "line" position to get back to utility power. This will prevent from the utility power and generator power back feeding into each other.
To size a MTS you want to base it off of the largest outlet on the generator. For the Champion 100297 you would want to utilize the 30-amp 120/240 volt outlet. There are a number of switches available. The differences are they can be mounted indoors or outdoors and will have a different number of circuits. The most common 30-amp 120/240 volt transfer switch is the Reliance Controls model #: A310C. The Reliance Controls A310C is an indoor only MTS with 10-circuits.

The wheels are not attached to the generator and are in the box when the generator arrives. The wheels, front legs, and handle would have to be attached by the customer.
