I have a customer running propane on a Yamaha genset. While burning propane the engine burns excessive oil, not a problem on gasoline. Any ideas?

Answer
The Yamaha portable generators are engineered and warranted to operate on gasoline only. The reason your customer is burning through oil is due to the excessive temperatures of the unit.

Gasoline burns at 485 degrees F whereas propane burns at 1008 degrees F which will cause excessive heat within the engine in turn burning off the engine oil.

Can I run an electric dryer (4 wire), and nothing else at the same time, using the l14-30r plug on the Yamaha EF6300iSDE and an appropriate extension cord such as I might find at Home Depot?

Answer
Thank you for your Inquiry!

The Yamaha, EF6300ISDE is rated to produce, 23 amps at 240 volts. It is likely that this unit can support your electric dryer, however you will need to determine the starting amperage of that appliance in order to be certain. You can find this information printed on the serial label of your dryer.

Also, we recommend using heavy gauge extension cords to connect heavy electronics. You can find these locally, or on our site as well....

Is there a recommended way I can direct the exhaust while using my Yamaha generator in a shed? I built the shed specifically for the the generator so It can be used in the rain and snow.

Answer
We do not offer or recommend any extended exhaust for portable generators. They are required to be run outdoors as they are air cooled and require proper air flow for engine cooling and exhaust.

The following GenTent is recommended for use with the Yamaha EF generators but also requires a PVC frame for support....see links below....

Is it possible to run the yamaha EF6300iSDE on propane or natural gas? I have seen some kits but not sure if the engine is actually made for it. thanks

Answer
Yamaha generators are engineered and designed to operate on gasoline only and they do not have a specific conversion kit. We recommend using gasoline only because if you use a different fuel type you will void the warranty.

With these units designed and engineered to operate on gasoline, which has an ignition temperature of 485 F and Propane/Natural Gas has an ignition temperature of 1008 F, by changing the fuel type that over time you can easily damage the internal components of the engine and shorten the life of the unit.

We do not recommend altering the generators we offer to a different fuel type other then what they were engineered and designed for.

This Generator appears to be much more enclosed than usual. Does it require a cover for rain or snowy weather?
