Does this Yamaha generator use mixed gasoline?
Pete
from New York
February 08, 2017
Answer
Yamaha recommends using 86 Octane fuel or higher. This unit does not require any mixing of gasoline or oil. Owner's Manual.

Can this be converted for propane use?
Peter G.
from California
December 15, 2016
Answer
Yamaha does not offer a fuel conversion for any of their generators and adding an aftermarket one will void the warranty.

I have a customer running propane on a Yamaha genset. While burning propane the engine burns excessive oil, not a problem on gasoline. Any ideas?
Shane Bland
from Florida
June 24, 2014
Answer
The Yamaha portable generators are engineered and warranted to operate on gasoline only. The reason your customer is burning through oil is due to the excessive temperatures of the unit.

Gasoline burns at 485 degrees F whereas propane burns at 1008 degrees F which will cause excessive heat within the engine in turn burning off the engine oil.

Can a GFI outlet from a generator be connected to a transfer switch?
Vito L.
from New York
January 24, 2014
Answer
Thanks for your inquiry.

You will need to go with a GFI type transfer switch if you use the GFI protected outlet on the generator. This will only apply to the outlet listed below since this is the only GFI protected outlet on this particular generator. Keep in mind that this outlet is not usually used to hook up to a transfer switch.

In order to get the full power from this generator you will want to use the 30-amp 3-prong outlet which is NOT GFI protected and can be used with a standard 120 volt only transfer switch.

When using the outlet that is shown above, we recommend the following items:

Reliance Controls 30114A

APC 32316-UTS6H Indoor Transfer Switch

Reliance Controls Inlet Box (PB31)

Reliance Controls Power Cord (PC3110)

My EF2800i won't start. The plug boot and oil were replaced. I checked the fuel, cleaned the carburetor and air filter and it still does not start. Any suggestions?

Answer
Since you have performed all the basic customer checks the best thing to do would be to take the unit to a certified Yamaha service center. You can find one from the link below.
