I have a customer running propane on a Yamaha genset. While burning propane the engine burns excessive oil, not a problem on gasoline. Any ideas?
Shane Bland
from Florida
June 24, 2014
Answer
The Yamaha portable generators are engineered and warranted to operate on gasoline only. The reason your customer is burning through oil is due to the excessive temperatures of the unit.
Gasoline burns at 485 degrees F whereas propane burns at 1008 degrees F which will cause excessive heat within the engine in turn burning off the engine oil.

Can two of these be connected together? I need 3500 watts minimum to start my A/C unit.
Jeff

Answer
Thanks for your inquiry.
The Yamaha High Current model is not compatible with parallel cables. We do offer the EF2000iS Parallel kit which will give you 4000 watts surge and 3200 watts running when using the 30-amp outlet. Below is a link to this kit.

What is a inverter generator?
Francine Breland
from New Jersey
December 28, 2012
Answer
An inverter generator is a power generator that can process raw power into a power feed similar to the power received through power lines. The generator part of an inverter generator is usually powered by gasoline or diesel fuel. "Inverter" means that the power is converted from direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC).
Typically inverter generators are much smaller then standard open frame style generators and tend to operate at very low noise levels. This makes them perfect for tailgating or camping and in some cases able to power one or two items in your home in an emergency.

Can we use the EF2400iSHC with an RV that only has a 30 amp or a 50 amp plug in?
Mary Irish
from Wisconsin
June 24, 2012
Answer
This model is too small for 50A output and in come cases it can be too small for 30A output.
This model is capable of producing 17A with a little surge capacity beyond that. It does have the capability of starting "Most" 13.5 BTU RV AC units when using a 20A power cord connected to a 30A RV connection with an adapter.
The EU3000ISEB is a better choice for output capacity and comfort due to its boost capacity and overall running capability.

Will an inverter type generator be the right choice for running a sump pump that cuts in frequently? The pump is a 1/3 hp 9amp 115 volt. I currently have a 2500 watt porter cable (traditional) generator with Honda motor. I am looking at a Honda or Yamaha as a backup/replacement. I am unsure if I the EF2400 would be powerful enough for the regular and frequent start-ups.
Geoff Winsor

Answer
The best thing to do is to calculate the starting amperage of the pump to find out what you need exactly. The formula to calculate wattage is - Starting Amps x Volts = Watts. Then you can determine the size that would suit your needs without purchasing something that may or may not work.
