Product QuestionsAnswered by Jared, the Generator Expert
Hi Josh,
I'm not sure what is meant by single load. Does this mean a single load which could be "the house" or does mean a single leg of a 220 feed. Or to put it another way is this a SPDT or DPDT transfer switch?

Answer
Thank you for your interest in Electric Generators Direct!
The Reliance Controls, TCA1006D is designed as a single load switch. This means that the transfer switch does not contain circuits, but rather will feed power downstream to either a branch circuit, or sub-panel. As this is rated as a service entrance, it is suitable to use for "the house" so long as that load does not exceed 100 amps. This device is a double pole, double throw system that will break one circuit prior to making the other.

I have a Honda EB5000X generator and I would like to know what transfer switch you would recommend I use. I know I can not run my whole home but I would like to be able to turn some things on and off as needed.

Answer
This transfer switch is perfect for trying to manage your panel without the limitations. The main issues would be to not overload the generator and a close eye needs to be watching the loads until you get a real feel for what you are in need of. It is recommended to include a watt meter in your design which will help monitor your usage.
This transfer switch is mounted between the meter and your existing main breaker which allows you the control of your panel.
Note: A certified electrician should be used in this type of application.
