Q: Hi Jim, I am looking at your Generac 15kw. The place of installment has a 200A service with a 50A/240V CB for the stove and a 20A/240V CB for the large door. I do not look forward to wiring a transfer switch inside as the layout is not good. Putting the switch next to the outside box makes more sense to me. What do you recommend? Do you sell a 200A switch without CBs? I do not know what the NEC states but it seems if all circuits already have CBs and as the generator has a CB, it would be safe. Only thing the owner will have to monitor what is on at once. Thanks for your help. Steve by Steve Deckard from California on January 04, 2012
A: The proper switch for this application would be the Reliance Controls TWB2005DR. See link for details:
Mounted between the meter and main for full panel control which is managed by the home owner.

Q: I want to be able to use my portable generator (8000W) to supply power to my entire 200A breaker panel so I can pick and choose and switch the circuits I power on. What is the easiest way to do this? by John from Virginia on September 20, 2011
A: You can do this with the Reliance Controls Manual Transfer Panel - TWB2005DR which is wired between your meter and main panel and allows you to manage your circuits. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim. I bought a 17.5 kw Generac and want to use it to power the whole house. Is there a way to get more than 50 amps to a transfer switch.? What transfer switch would you choose? by Peter Matheson from Nevada on February 19, 2011
A: The best way to connect to your home panel and have the ability to use all your circuits is to use a manual transfer panel based on the amperage size of your existing panel. (100A or 200A) This transfer panel would be mounted between your meter and your main panel breaker so you have control of all of your circuits. You still need to control them according to the load without exceeding the maximum of 12,500 watts through the 50A outlet. In a normal situation no one normally uses anywhere near 12,500 watts at any one time. The link below will show you some of the switches we have to give you more options.
Q: I have a Honda EB5000X generator and I would like to know what transfer switch you would recommend I use. I know I can not run my whole home but I would like to be able to turn some things on and off as needed. by Mark Cox from Pennsylvania on February 01, 2011
A: This transfer switch is perfect for trying to manage your panel without the limitations. The main issues would be to not overload the generator and a close eye needs to be watching the loads until you get a real feel for what you are in need of. It is recommended to include a watt meter in your design which will help monitor your usage.
This transfer switch is mounted between the meter and your existing main breaker which allows you the control of your panel.
Note: A certified electrician should be used in this type of application. by Jim, Product Expert

Jim's Recommendation
The transfer panel includes a 200A main circuit breaker interlinked with a 30A - 125A generator breaker feeding a heavy-duty copper bus with feed-through lugs.
This transfer panel is suitable for service entrance and may be used as a main panel or feed-through to a sub-panel or main panel but is ideal for applications requiring the entire service panel to be available for generator power.
This particular model is rated for outdoor use and can handle a generator up to 12.5kW with 50Amps.
One thing to mention is that this does not come with a power inlet box, so you will need to purchase this separately.

Great Service!
Have not had to use the transfer switch yet, but, as usual the delivery service was great. Delivered as promised.
Bought a B & S a couple of months ago, it started up as promised.
Have not used it under a loss of power situation yet. But the delivery and shipping was great and also on time.
