I have a DuroStar DS4000S Generator (4000W surge, 3300W regular). My questions: -The generator has a 30A twist outlet at 120V, can I use it with this unit? (the generator puts out 27.5 Amps, right (3300/120?). Would it be better to use a 30A unit? -The generator's 30A twist outlet is 3 prong, not 4. Can this unit be connected via an adapter?

Your DuroStar portable generator will not be compatible with this transfer switch as the power ratings differ. Unfortunately there are no adapters that can be used to convert your 3-prong output to the 4-prong receptacle on this transfer switch. In addition, this model switch is rated for 20-amps, while the generator has a 30-amp output.

We would recommend the 30-amp 120-volt equivalent, the Reliance Controls 30114A No adapters or unique wiring configurations will be necessary.

The Reliance Controls 30114A, 30-amp manual transfer switch will not be recommended for use with that Yamaha YG6600DE generator. The transfer switch is not designed for use with generators that have GFI supported high-voltage outlets.

We suggest that you consider one of the "GFI" compatible transfer switches for use with that generator. These switches have a 3-pole switching mechanism which will alleviate and nuisance tripping that would surely occur when switching with a traditional 2-pole transfer switch.

Can two of the 120v circuits be combined for one 240v circuit using this transfer switch? Would that require replacing the breakers that come in it?

This switch is 120V only and cannot be changed to accommodate 240V. You would need to select a 120/240V type switch....

Jim- I purchased a Generac 5500 from you guys. Great unit. I was going to purcase the Reliance 30114A, but now I see in the specs it's rated for 3700 watts. I only need to power 4 circs. Can I use this unit? I think the 6 circ unit is overkill for my needs. I'm powering - max- a 1/2 HP forced air furnace 120v, a 1/3 HP sump pump and a refrig. Thanks- Ralph

The max rating should not be a problem because you will be powering this transfer switch from the one 30Amp outlet on the generator and this outlet will only produce 3600 watts (30Amps X 120V).
