I have a 30 amp L14-30R outlet but it is 240v not a 120/240v. Can I use this cord to give me 4 120v outlets from a 240 v plug?

Answer
Thank you for your inquiry!

The Powermate, PA0650193 Convenience Cord is capable of distributing 240v power into four, 120v outlets. This cord will be equipped with a NEMA L14-30 plug and therefore be compatible with your generator.

I have a Powermate 5000 generator and on the 240V plug the prong with the L shape turns down instead of up. Which cord do you think I would need to get?

Answer
Up or out would have me thinking it would be a 20A outlet....

With a 20A outlet you would need to go with a matching 20A cord.

Down or In would have me thinking it would be a 30A outlet....

My generator is 8kW. The manual calls for a "NEMA L14-30" cord, but the specs on this cord say "7500 watt max". Why? Will this cord work?

Answer
The outlet on your generator that you will be plugging into will be 30A with a maximum wattage output capacity of 7500 watts. So, the overall generator output size doesn't matter.

All 30A connections, cords, inlet boxes and switches are rated for a maximum of 7500 watts due to Ohms Law (Amps x Volts = Watts).

30A cord ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

30A outlet ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

30A switch ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

Yes, this cord will work with your 8000 watt generator.

What do the red and blue dots on outlet head stand for .

Answer
They mark which leg of the generator the power emanated from. In a generator there are two winding groups. When each ties to neutral you get 120v power. The marks are simply telling you that 2 receptacles are on one half of the generators windings, 2 are on the other half. It helps balance the load when you operate 2 refrigerators, you should have one plugged into red & one plugged into blue.

I just bought a 6000W Briggs and Stratton portable generator. Would this cord work? Manual says extension cord should be a NEMA L14-30 rated for 250 Volt AC loads at 30 amps or greater. Thanks.

Answer
This would be the correct cord to match to your L14-30 connection on the generator.
