Q: I have a 30 amp L14-30R outlet but it is 240v not a 120/240v. Can I use this cord to give me 4 120v outlets from a 240 v plug?
by Marty Bodek from New York on June 20, 2013

A: Thank you for your inquiry!

The Powermate, PA0650193 Convenience Cord is capable of distributing 240v power into four, 120v outlets. This cord will be equipped with a NEMA L14-30 plug and therefore be compatible with your generator.

Q: I have a Powermate 5000 generator and on the 240V plug the prong with the L shape turns down instead of up. Which cord do you think I would need to get?

by Steven from Oklahoma on January 15, 2013

A: Up or out would have me thinking it would be a 20A outlet....

With a 20A outlet you would need to go with a matching 20A cord.

Down or In would have me thinking it would be a 30A outlet....

With a 30A outlet you would need to go with a matching 30A cord...

Q: My generator is 8kW. The manual calls for a "NEMA L14-30" cord, but the specs on this cord say "7500 watt max". Why? Will this cord work?
by Richard from Connecticut on December 05, 2012

A: The outlet on your generator that you will be plugging into will be 30A with a maximum wattage output capacity of 7500 watts. So, the overall generator output size doesn't matter.

All 30A connections, cords, inlet boxes and switches are rated for a maximum of 7500 watts due to Ohms Law (Amps x Volts = Watts).

30A cord ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

30A outlet ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

30A switch ratings are 30A x 250V = 7500W

Yes, this cord will work with your 8000 watt generator.

Q: What do the red and blue dots on outlet head stand for .
by Rich Biscottini from Florida on September 04, 2012

A: They mark which leg of the generator the power emanated from. In a generator there are two winding groups. When each ties to neutral you get 120v power. The marks are simply telling you that 2 receptacles are on one half of the generators windings, 2 are on the other half. It helps balance the load when you operate 2 refrigerators, you should have one plugged into red & one plugged into blue.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: I just bought a 6000W Briggs and Stratton portable generator. Would this cord work? Manual says extension cord should be a NEMA L14-30 rated for 250 Volt AC loads at 30 amps or greater. Thanks.
by Todd from Virginia on July 12, 2012

A: This would be the correct cord to match to your L14-30 connection on the generator.

There are lots of these cords on the market, but the Powermate cord in unique in that allows you to plug in one item into the “red” side and one into the “blue” side and have a constant amp draw on both sides.

Similar cords on the market that have these multi-taps do not offer this function. AND since we bought this product on special, we are able to give you a really great price.

This is why the Powermate cord earns the top spot on our list.

Congestion Saver
With the generator placed outside, thr powermater cord reduces the number of cords fed into the home, which allows additional feed cords to various areas within the home. You can plug or unplug, and move freely to and appliance and maintain a neat situation. This is a must for all running portable generators.
Pros: I'd Buy It Again, Features, Exceeded Expectations, High Quality
Cons: Heavy

Must-have Cord For Every 30 Amp Generator!
This cord has split 5-20R outlets, which means two 120 volt outlets per phase of the 240 volt power generation. This allows you to balance loads on both phases, which is very important as well as efficient. Used this cord for a week on a small ginny during Irma. No problems, no heat at the plug or sockets, no measurable loss over the 25 foot run. Very well made cord I expect to last for years. Perfect!
Pros: Durable, Exceeded Expectations, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again

"This is the one stop shop for generators and accessories. They have everything...including the best quality products...which are not easy to find. They ship faster than they said on their website. And this is not just for simple home owner items like the big box stores. They have the high-end commercial products, like transfer switches, maintenance kits, and heavy-duty cords for long-term industrial use and environments. Everything we have bought has worked as it should. And, they can be called for advice on specialized items. They really know this business. That is rare these days."

Great Generators
I bought 2 Generac 7500 watt generators with the electric start and the powermate cord. I bought one for my house and also one for my mothers house. I spent weeks after hurricane Irene calling all the big box stores asking when they will be getting new generators in. They could not give me an answer due to the high demand they were experiencing. The morning after the storm I went to the local big box store and there was a line of about 50 people waiting for the store to open. Then 2 patrol... more

Quality Power Cord, Nothing Like The Picture
EGD Resonds: From time to time, manufacturers update/replace products without our knowledge. As of 12/29/10, the new image of the cord has been added and it is now displays the correct outlet configuration.

I guess the folks at this site are too busy to change the photo, the arrangement of the plugs is completely different from the picture. I do look to see if it says "Picture is representative, actual product may very" and it doesn't say that in it's description. I don't think... more

Great Product
This is what I have been looking for to run my portable AC unit and three other accessories without shortage of amp draw through this 30 amp cord. It will be used to supply emergency power during outages caused by hurricanes. Delivery was quick.

My Ordering Experience With Electric Generators Direct
After being unable to find a generator locally that I felt fit my needs, I decided to visit Electric Generators Direct website. There were several helpful videos that actually changed my mind as far as the size and the type of generator that I wanted to purchase.

Based on Electric Generators Direct's recommendation, I decided on the 7000 watt Briggs & Stratton.

The ordering process was very easy. I ordered on a Sunday and the generator was delivered the following Friday. The... more

Nice Machine!
It was time to replace my 10 year old Generac 4000xl which had served me well through hurricanes and other outages. So, I moved up to this one.

I am very pleased with the whole experience. Delivery was prompt and courteous. It arrived completely undamaged.

Set up was easy (it is heavy, though), and it started right up. I love the electric start and the additional power. All the controls are straight forward.

I picked up the Powermate 30-Amp convenience Cord (4-Prong) for... more

Powermate 30-amp Convenience Cord (4-prong) Review
Works well. I have a new propane-powered generator, one power failure, started generator out on my deck ran this cable through the window into the kitchen and was able to take care of lights, TV & refrigerator for 5 hours. Very easy to use.

EGD RESPONSE: If you have a wood deck, DON'T run your generator on top. They occasionally spark. The last thing that you need is a deck fire during a blackout.

Great
This cord is great. Especially if you need to power up items that need 20 amps or better to get started up and running.

I had a recent power outage, and I could not run my furnace using a standard extension cord and the 20 amp outlet from my generator. It wouldn't put out enough juice to get by the initial power needed to run the furnace.

I used this cord set to power the furnace using the 30 amp connector, and it ran the furnace and my fridge just fine.

Very Nice
I purchased this for home backup use. It was very easy to assemble and set up. I filled it with gasoline and it started on the 2nd pull.

I also purchased the 30-Amp cord that splits the power into 4 separate 120V outlets. Everything seems well made - the generator steel frame feels solid, no vibrations when running, and the cord is very thick and has a "heavy duty" feeling to.

I'm not wishing for any extended power outages anytime soon, but I am very happy to be prepared... more
