I have a 3500w generator that is not rated for 220v and only has a 3 prong 25 amp. outlet. I have a transfer switch that has a 4 prong plug- in. How can I hook this up?

Answer
If your generator has a 3-prong plug, it basically doesn't produce 220v electricity.

Regardless of the plugs, it won't be able to energize the 220v sections of your transfer switch.

It will, however, energize all of the 120v circuits in the transfer switch.

Most smaller generators simple don't have the strength to power high-voltage appliances and circuits.
