3 Questions
Q: Jim, we purchased a new generator and we put gas in it to check to see how it runs. My question is how do we store this machine ~ with or without gas? Also, we were told to start the machine once a month. Is this true? Thank you for your help. by Patricia Courtemanche from Massachusetts on May 03, 2012
A: The best thing is to follow the owner's manual. If you intend on storing the generator for an extended amount of time there are procedures in the manual that you will need to follow for your specific model.
If you intend on keeping gasoline in the unit you must use a fuel stabilizer like StaBil which keeps the fuel fresh as gasoline will go bad in 30 Days.
If you are not doing long term storage you should start your generator every couple of weeks so the engine gets properly lubricated and you are moving fuel through the fuel system which prevents buildup.
Q: I just received the generator I purchased from you (Generac GP5500 - 5500 Watt Portable Generator) and it comes with a bottle of oil. It does not say on the bottle what type it is. 30 weight or 10w30? Do you know so that it is the proper oil to use for the current temperature. Thanks, Larry by Larry from Ohio on March 26, 2011
A: Generac uses 10W30 in their kits that get sent with the portable generators. by Jim, Product Expert

Jim's Recommendation
If you are looking for a small generator to run the basics like a refrigerator and sump pump, then you have picked the right model.
This is our smallest generator and will power a few small appliances to get you through the storm.
For this price you can get peace of mind that if you are home you can keep the food cold and the basement dry, but that's about it. If you want to add a few more small appliances we recommend you take a step up.

Good Value For Emergency Power
I received my generator in just a few days. Good value for the money. Power Equipment Direct is the way to go. I ordered my battery backup sump pump and now this generator from Power Equipment Direct. Very satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.

Emergency Power!
I recently purchased my Generac GP3250 from EGD. It was easy to assemble the basic items, wheels, handle and the frame foot. It could not of come at a better time because here in the pacific northwest we were hammered by a wicked snowstorm followed by a ice storm in which we went without power for several hours.
Needless to say our Generac went into action and we were able to power up our most basic needs like the pellet stove, refrigerator and TV. In all honesty it is not as quiet as I thought it would be. Bottom line here....it is perfect for our needs and it performed well for us. Thank you EGD.

Research Carefully
I bought 2 of these generators in an attempt to keep cost down for 2 familys. Cannot run anything that draws more that 14 Amps. Had calculated running Watts ok for furnace and refrigerator, but due to only having a 14 Amp breaker on the generator cannot power the load from a oil burner motor and starting load of the blower fan. Is too bad that these units dont have a 15 Amp breaker, Who has 14 Amp breakers in a house? Come on Generac really...

Learn Here, Buy Here, Then Sit Back & Relax Its on Its Way.
I found myself in a much similar situation as John from freehold, also frustrated, I turned to EGD, I should have gone first. The unit is small its about the size of a typical 2200 watt unit but just a bit heavier the wheels and handle makes for easy navigation from storage, its nice and quiet. This may not run 10 sump pumps but it ran everything I threw at it. To top it off a lot of people bought generators this past hurricane and looking at some of them, and prices they paid compared to my Generac I'm really glad I did my research here, and got a fine generator thanks to Electric Generators Direct.

Awesome Generator
During hurricane Irene the power went out in my town and all the surrounding towns. Everyone was in a mad scramble for generators, I was upset that I couldn't find one, but you know the old saying "good things come to those who wait." I went online, did my research on generators instead of buying the first available generator from some over priced store.
I found EGD and ordered the Generac GP3250. I love it, the thing fired up on the first pull and it is super quite. I dont have to worry about disturbing my neighbors with some beastly, noisy generator. Awesome generator at a great price. I think it is the best bang for the buck.

Emergency Power
I purchased this generator to use in an emergency primarily to keep my frozen and refrigerated food from spoiling. After talking with one of your tech reps, I am not going to add oil or gas until I need to.
The generator arrived in good shape and was very easy to assemble. It moves easily and I am sure it will be worth its weight in gold when the time comes.
