The clerk offers you a chance to save a certain percentage on your purchase if you apply for a store credit card. You want the deal, so you fill out a credit card application at the counter.
A few days later you receive a credit card sponsored by the store and financed through a bank.

Secondly, instead of a percentage discount, we offer low payments and no interest if your purchase is paid in full in 6 months*. Basically, you can buy a generator the first day of hurricane season and not pay any interest until the season ends.
In simple terms, you’re applying for a new credit card instead of using a current one. You’re being rewarded with a nice incentive to apply. As with any promotion, always read the fine print first.
