| Electric Generators Direct Recommendation |
| By Electric Generators Direct |
Yamaha scored a touchdown with this one!
I personally took this one to the Bears vs. Panthers playoff game. Proud to say that we were the envy of tailgating party. Got to watch the early game and pregame on a big screen TV.
It weighs the same as Coleman's Pulse generator, but the similarities stop there. It's extremely quiet. A lot of people walked up to the generator just to see if it was on.
It has a large, fuel-efficient gas tank. We ran it for 4 hours, and it only used half a tank. The fuel gauge is a nice feature.
If you want to power multiple appliances at once, this one is a no-brainer. Frankly, it was almost too powerful for the Bears game.
If you just want to power a TV or something simple, the smaller Yamaha will work just fine for nearly half the price. |

| Too Much Cheap Plastic |
| By Steven Rickner (Fruitland, NM) |
I bought mine a year ago. Be careful, the front cover will break if you are not very gentle when you pull out a plug. And, my fuel knob broke on the second trip I took it on.
It is very quiet, however. |

| Twin Tech Blues |
| By Criss Darts (Garden Grove Ca, CA) |
On our first night of dry camping we pulled out our two, 2000 watt generators, plugged in the Twin Tech cable and realized
my 30 amp cord from my trailer would not plug into the twin tech- it requires a special adapter.
You would think for the $200.00 I paid for the Twin Tech cable they would include the $6.00 adapter! Yamaha needs to say a special adapter is required with the Twin Tech cables when purchasing this item. |

We added a new generator to the family along with my on-board Onan.
On camping trips my family watches a lot of TV, so I got an Ef2400is. It's nice and quiet, and has great power for its size.
No more depleted batteries because of my Onan 5500 Gold sucking my battery juice down! |

| Hurricane Ike...Day 7 & Going Strong |
| By Fred K (Houston, TX) |
I live near downtown Houston, and I bought the EF2400iS about a month before the storm. I also picked up a 50 foot 20 amp 10 gauge extention, several 1x3 splitters and several 12-14 gauge 25-50 foot cords, and 3 NATO style 5 gallon Jerry cans. I was ready for Gustav, but got nailed by Ike...trees down all over with a two-week guess on power outage duration.
I cranked up the Yamaha on Saturday afternoon and it's handled everything I have thrown at it: 6000BTU window AC, modern refrigeratorfreezer, chest deep freezer, multiple lamps with compact flourescents, portable phones, DSL modem, router and network switch, two laptops, HD satellite TV box and 26" LCD TV, small TVDVD and a cord over the fence to my neighbor for light duty.
When it's all cranked up, the Yamaha follows suit and we don't even see voltage surges. Also, I've only used about 20 gallons of fuel after 6 days (days 1 and 2 were light duty and refrigerator only). Also I have unplugged the AC and refrig and freezer to run electric chain saw, leaf blower, Skill saw, table saw and drill etc to cleanup the branches and rebuild the back fence.
I changed the break-in oil after about 40 hours, and I will again after the next hundred or so. One problem on day 4: the gen just quit and would not restart! Upon inspection of the spark plug, I found a hairline crack around the insulator. My guess is the crack was there from the start, but until the heat broke through the resistor, it ran fine. Luckily an auto parts store was open (running on gen power) and I got two replacement ACDelco plugs.....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SPARES...plugs and oil. Also, thanks Yamaha for the included spark plug wrench! So that hour was the only downtime.
I've been around the neighborhood, and others are running some really noisy machines that don't come close to the load the Yamaha is handling, and people are freaked about how quiet it is..can't hear it from the front of the house even at full load.
One other note...since I have central AC, when I got the generator, I bought a Frigidaire FAA065P7A 6000 BTU window unit. This model (and some others) has a special circuit that limits start-up surge and other voltage swings...must be a bank of capacitors or something, but it is essential for gen power...no circuit breaking surges when at full load.
Well, it's not city-power, but my family of five is hardly doing without thanks to this machine along with gas range, gas water heater, copper phone lines (no thanks Comcast, your customers don't have phone, TV or internet). Next up for the Yamaha: laundry duty...two new front load Samsungs...gas dryer, of course. Now I just have to figure out how to secure this thing in my garage after this ordeal is done. I'm thinking about a Greenlee metal tool box for securing cable pulling tools at job sites...any other ideas? |

| How to Save Your Fish Tank from Power Failure |
| By Jon Hoch, Founder (Bolingbrook, IL) |
Coral reefs are fragile, but it often takes an act of God to disrupt a natural one.
Stick a coral reef into a fish tank, and it's literally on life support. A simple power outage can turn your aquarium into a mortuary in less than 48 hours.
Without power, your water pumps immediately seize up. The stagnant water quickly loses oxygen, and fish start suffocating.
Without electricity, your lights go dark. Your corals start starving because they need light to produce food.
Without a UV sterilizer, heater and protein skimmer, disease spreads rapidly as the weaker creatures start dying. The ammonia levels skyrocket, contaminating the water and eventually killing hardier invertebrates.
Keeping your tank alive is a race against time measured in days… not minutes.
We bought a battery backup system for our 250-gallon saltwater fish tank. It’s larger than most fish tanks, so we spent around $400 to buy two of the biggest battery backup systems available. What a waste!
Last August, an ordinary thunderstorm knocked out power in Chicago for 2-3 days. Our two battery backups ran for a whopping 20 minutes. It doesn’t take long for battery backups to go dead along with your fish. We sell generators, so we didn’t have any problems finding a backup generator.
Other fish tank owners weren’t so fortunate. We heard plenty of horror stories on how extremely expensive fish tanks decomposed in just a few days.
Fish tanks consume lots of electricity. We actually measured the wattage using a Reliance AmWatt Load Tester.
Protein Skimmer Water Pump = 105 Watts
Water Pump 1 = 60 Watts
Water Pump 2 = 60 Watts
Heater 1 = 190 Watts
Heater 2 = 190 Watts
UV Sterilizer 1 = 30 Watts
UV Sterilizer 2 = 30 Watts
Light 1 (Blue/White/Fan) = 200 Watts
Light 2 (Blue/White/Fan) = 200 Watts
Based on our calculations, we used a Yamaha 2000 Watt Inverter generator to revive our fish tank. It worked like a charm. It packed plenty of power to start the water pump motors, which require a large surge of electricity to turn over.
Always run your generator outside since they produce deadly carbon monoxide gas. Don’t kill yourself while saving your fish.
A generator sounds expensive, but it’ll cost more time, energy and money to replace your fish than it does to save them. |

| This generator totally owns in its size class. its so quite I love it. The fuel savings is huge compared to my old 3800w that always ran at something like 3600 rpm. It runs just over idle running my 13500 btu AC, then i added a 110v 5 amp 4" angle grinder. It started that up No issues at all and had lots of power left to spare. I can honestly say I am very impressed. |

| By John Muncie |
| Maybe I got the one bad one in 1000. Bought it in Apr 2007 and I have less than 10 hours on it. At first it ran great. Would run my RV air conditioner and frig with no problems. With no warning my RV would not accept the power it was producing. The generator would race, my RV circuitry would cycle on and off and the AC would bog down. Now it won't run anything, not even a shop light or a jig saw. Starts fine and the AC light comes on, but when I plug anything in to the AC receptacles, nothing. Taking it in next week for service, so I'll reserve final judgement until after I get it back |

| Yamaha EF2400iS - 2000 Watt Inverter Generator Review |
| By Edward Escamilla |
| After countless visits to various web sites to help me ease my mind to what generator will start and run my A/C on my mew travel trailer. I just know placed my order for a new Yamaha EF2400iS Inverter Generator. My brother In-Law purchased the same generator several months ago and allowed me to conduct a test run on my own travel trailer. One pull of the cord sent the, motor purring and once plugged into the trailer the A/C unit started without any hesitation. From the inside of the trailer I could not hear the generator engine running. Like love at first sight, I fell in love with the Yamaha EF2400iS. |

| By Joe Moreno |
I purchased one for my Chalet XL1930.
It will run the a/c, fridge, and tv while still charging my batteries.
Honda Eu2000 owners keep eyeing my new generator. They had not seen any competition up till now.
I was suprised that my wife liked the design and color.
My brother is now thinking of getting one for his camper.
It's little bigger and heavier than the Honda, but it has just the right amount of output for small RV's.

| I have a 24ft. travel trailer and bought this Generator to use when camping where there are no hookups. The question with these Small inverter Generators is, Will they start the Roof A/C? I have a Coleman MACH plus made in 1992 and it would NOT start it. I Checked the Generator output with a Digital Multimeter and Clamp on Amp meter. When trying to start the A/C The generator went to high RPM and held 30 amps at 80 volts for about 10 seconds before tripping the overload on the generator. 30 X 80 equals the 2400 watt generator MAX rating. I checked the A/C starting surge on house power and it drew 37 amp starting surge. This told me I was close to getting it to work. I searched the internet for a solution and found one. A Hard Start Capacitor, It goes into the A/C on the roof of the RV. I found one in Tennessee for $20. I put it in and it cut the A/C starting surge to 27 AMPS. The Yamaha IS2400ef starts it just fine now! A/C running current after start is 12 AMPS. |

| I looked around for one of the most quiet generators I could find, and I'm really glad I found this one. EG Direct shipped it on time, I put in some gas and oil, and it fired up on the first pull of the chord. I bought it for when the power goes out on my house, I can charge back up my refrigerator and run the blower on my gas furnace. It runs the full-size refrigerator no problem; I'll test the furnace later. I'm very happy with this purchase! |
