Winco 8,000 Watt TriFuel Generator w/ Electric Start Vanguard Review
By David Hoy
I purchased this generator in early 1999 in prep for Y2K to power up my home in the event I lose power. I have it permanantly mounted in the basement with air intake and exhaust ducted to the outside. I installed an hour meter because I am anal about oil changes. This engine has run 25 hours in the 7 years I have owned it. This past October 12 Western NY was hit with a storm that knocked out power for a week. The run hours were doubled in two days. On natural gas, this generator takes a few cranks to start with the battery. Without the battery, it takes a lot of quick pulls but it will start. So far, so good. A very slick set up.

So far so good. Quick start in the gas mode, however I have yet to hook it up to propane yet. Used once so for about three hours, worked great. One thing to take note of, this unit does not idol down when power draw is low; the engine goes full bore at all times. If you want an engine that will idol down when not pumping out watts you should look at a Honda engine, which of course cost more. My father in law has a generator with a Honda engine; it power down when not dishing out watts, which saves fuel and is much less noisy.
