Q: What is the LP gas line in pressure required to run this generator. by Joseph Smith from New York on January 21, 2012
A: Correct fuel pressure cannot be stressed enough. The most common cause or inoperative systems is an inadequate or incorrect fuel pressure.
Power and performance of the engine is in direct relation to the correctness of the fuel system.
There are several fuel delivery systems mentioned in the owner's manual and should be referred to when connecting system.
Whichever fuel delivery system or type of vapor fuel used, the fuel pressure at the demand regulator installed on the engine generator must be between 4 and 6 oz. (7-11 inches of water column). Any lower pressure and the unit will starve for fuel under load. Any higher and the unit will ‘flood’ when attempting to start.
There is some very important LP tank sizing requirements in the owner's manual which needs to be reviewed.
Q: I'm needing a home back up generator that I can also use for hunting camp. Can either the 5500 watt or the 8000 watt model be run of off 100lb and 20lb tanks? What is the LP consumption of both at half and full load? by Jason Hyrczyk from Wisconsin on March 07, 2011
A: All of the Winco Tri-Fuel generators can operate on any size LP tank, it just depends on how much back-up power you want to have available.
Winco only lists the fuel consumption at full load. Please see link below to review the spec sheet which covers all their Tri-Fuel models.
I purchased this generator in early 1999 in prep for Y2K to power up my home in the event I lose power. I have it permanantly mounted in the basement with air intake and exhaust ducted to the outside. I installed an hour meter because I am anal about oil changes. This engine has run 25 hours in the 7 years I have owned it. This past October 12 Western NY was hit with a storm that knocked out power for a week. The run hours were doubled in two days. On natural gas, this generator takes a few cranks to start with the battery. Without the battery, it takes a lot of quick pulls but it will start. So far, so good. A very slick set up.

So far so good. Quick start in the gas mode, however I have yet to hook it up to propane yet. Used once so for about three hours, worked great. One thing to take note of, this unit does not idol down when power draw is low; the engine goes full bore at all times. If you want an engine that will idol down when not pumping out watts you should look at a Honda engine, which of course cost more. My father in law has a generator with a Honda engine; it power down when not dishing out watts, which saves fuel and is much less noisy.
