Q: I am looking to put a Manual Transfer Switch on my house. I am looking for something that would be able to handle power from my portable generator. I have a Troy Bilt 5500. I would like to have a connection on the outside of my house to plug my Generator into. What type of transfer switch would you recommend.

A: If you want the transfer switch installed on the outside of the house, this option will work.

In most cases, the manual transfer switches are installed inside next the main electrical panel.

Then, a power inlet box is installed outside the house - just like a normal outside outlet.

If you buy this switch, you'll still need a power cord to connect the generator and the transfer switch.
