Will the Q310C transfer switch work with a Honda EU6500iS generator?
Thanks by Tom from Massachusetts on February 26, 2013
A: Yes, the Reliance Controls Q310C will work with the Honda EU6500 generator. You will be connecting to the 240V 30A 4-Prong outlet on the generator which provides the largest load output.
Q: I am considering the Q310C but I would like to have 14 circuits. Can the full thickness circuit breakers that come with this unit be interchanged with tandem circuit breakers in order to create more circuits?
by Robert from New Jersey on January 15, 2013
A: No, you cannot use the mini/tandem breakers with the Reliance Controls Q310C transfer switch.
You can use tandem breakers with the Generac switches and the model that can handle up to 16 circuits is model 6378...
Q: Is the Reliance Q310C a good choice for my Generac XP7000E. My electrician indicates a need for a 20A 2pole and a 15A 2 pole as well as several single pole breakers. Are the replaceable breakers similar to the Murray that are so available. Is the Reliance PB30 inlet box a good choice? by Allan Peck from Massachusetts on May 24, 2012
A: You cannot use the Q310C with the Generac XP generators. The control panel on the XP models is GFI protected so you must use a GFI type transfer switch. The Reliance Controls "X Series" switches are recommended. Here are a couple models and they are very versatile....
Q: Does the Q306C come as pictured with 6 breakers installed, or do I provide the breakers? by Bob from Maryland on February 05, 2011
A: This product is supplied with a combination of 15- and 20-amp circuit breakers. In some cases, a 30 amp double-pole breaker may be supplied in the A and B positions. All circuit breaker positions will accommodate 15- and 20-amp circuit breakers, and may be easily changed in the field. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: On the Q310A, could I pull the 20 amp 2 pole breaker out and install two 20 amp 1 pole breakers? Also is the only difference between the Q310A and the Q310C is the plug in that comes with the Q310A? by Steve Bill from Minnesota on February 04, 2011
A: Since both the Q310A and Q310C have interchangeable breakers, yes, the 2-pole breaker can be switched out to two 1-pole breakers.
The only difference between the Q310A and the Q310C is the addition of the plug outlet included with the Q310A model.
Q: Hello. What are the main differences between the Q310A and the 31410CRK switches? by Raegen Carr from Florida on January 23, 2011
A: The "Q" Series Reliance Controls transfer switches have interchangeable breakers and their "Pro/Tran" Series do not.
Advantage of interchangeable breakers allows you to adapt the switch to your specific needs. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I have a new Honeywell HW7500E portable generator that I wish to use for backup in my manufactured home. I'm looking at your Reliance Model Q310A 30 amp transfer switch. I can mount the switch under my panel where it will be about 2 feet from the outside wall. On the other side of that wall is my generator which I would like to keep about 20 feet from the house. My question is this: What components, other than the switch, will I need to get the power from my generator, through the wall and into the house and from there, into the Model Q310A 30 amp transfer switch? by Terry Miller from Arizona on January 22, 2011
A: You would need to purchase a outdoor power inlet box which is basically an outlet you plug the generator into outside. This inlet box is then wired directly to the transfer switch providing the needed power from the generator.
I mounted the 30 amp Reliance switch in the back of a bedroom closet in three hours the evening of the day it arrived. The next day the connections were made inside the home breaker panel. This took four hours for completion but was very easy to do. Most of my time was spent verifying the circuits to be connected to the unit. The switch functioned well from the start and I have had no problems with this switch. I have been very pleased with this product.

Great Transfer Switch
I ordered the Q310C quite sometime after Sandy in Early February. EGD had them back ordered expecting shipment about 2/28/13. It was shipped earlier and I received it in 2 days. Great service and reliability. As far as the Transfer Switch Panel, I received it yesterday and have it already installed today with 5 circuits to go. I had everything pre mapped out and the circuits all chosen. Totally suggest doing that. I mounted the wood panel on the wall also prior to arrival. The line from the outside PB30 box was waiting for the switch to arrive. The procedure was simple, the wiring very basic and it is an approximate 3 hour install considering you just have to mount and wire the box to the main circuits. I just have an hour to go and then to test it. I'm sure the test will go seamless. Great product, well made and flexible with the breakers. Don't let the wires scare you. Everyone is perfectly marked.

Q310c Transfer Switch Review
I like the versatility of this transfer switch. You can replace any of the breakers with standard breakers from Lowes or Home Depot. It is very easy to cable into your main panel and allows you to switch individual loads from Utility power to generator.

Very Pleased
I Will Be Finishing the Installation of the Switch Soon and I Am Very Pleased With It. I Have Two Panels to Deal With Since the House Is Over 7,000 SQ. Ft. I Will Need to Run a Few Wires From One Panel to the Other So as to Connect a Few More Circuits That I Will Need to the Transfer Wires in the Primary Panel.
the Setup in the Transfer Switch I.E.. Three Position Switches and Circuit Breakers Make It So Easy to Manage the Power From Utility Power to Generator Power. Just Flip the Switch to Line Power When the Line Power Comes Back On and Shut the Generator Down.
I Will Be Ready to Test the System in About Two Weeks Since It Is a Part-Time Project.
Egd Responds: Many Localities & Insurance Companies Require Changes to Your Electrical Panel Be Certified by a Registered Electrician. Please Be Sure to Check With Your Local Zoning Board and Insurance Agent.

We lose power for about five days, once a year for the last four years. Whole house generators are a tad expensive ($12,000) but very nice.
This combination cost about 1/10 of that (excluding installation). The 7.5 kW/manual transfer switch has a lot of power to run refrigerator, heaters(gas), TV, computer, stove(gas), micowave, lights, laundry and computer.
I converted the 2- 220VAC to 4 -110VAC by replacing breakers and removing the switch connecting bar (described in the booklet). The transfer switch allows me to monitor the power and selection of circuits (10). It is nice to switch in the laundry every now and then to keep up with dirty clothes pile.
The transfer switch was not difficult to install. I did find generator for slightly less but add in sales tax and getting it home
negated any cost savings. Your no sales tax and free tailgate delivery was fast and pleasant.
The delivery trucker put the unit in my garage and opened box to inspect the unit for visible damage (none). I ordered the unit on Monday and it was working on Saturday.
My neighbor is going to buy one.
EGD RESPONDS: Please be aware that some towns & insurance companies require that changes made to your electrical panel are certified by a registered electrician. Be sure to check your local building codes, and with your insurance agent.

Great Product, Little More Wire Please
Everything came as ordered in good shape. Installation was easy. Changed out the 30A breaker for two 20A to get nine circuits plus my well pump. Only problem was the length of the wiring. It is assumed that you can install the transfer switch within a few inches of the main panel. In my case I had to mount it a foot away. The metal conduit was too short so I had to buy a replacement piece. The wiring was just barely long enough for all but two circuits so i rearranged the panel to move the breakers closer to the bottom so the wiring would reach. Other than a few dollars and annoyance, everything worked great. I'd recommend this product to anyone.

Q310c
Very happy with this purchase. Transaction went smoothly, very impressed with this company, delivered on time, great followup. Installed the switch no problem. The electrician came yesterday and signed off on the installation. I purchased this particular switch due to it configurable layout. I swapped out the 30A two pole breaker and bought two 20A single pole breakers to replace it. This gives me a total of nine circuits. Since my home has a 100A service panel, this unit will run just about everything. Its very well built, and very durable. I don't have a generator yet, but will definitely purchase from EGD.com when I'm ready to buy.

Reliance Makes An Excellent Little Transfer Switch
Product quality is fist rate and the featured were exactly what I needed. Installation was also a breeze.
I do have one major concern for DIY installers, read the part carefully about wiring this or any transfer switch to home that has "common neutral" branch wiring. A "common neutral" configuration is where two branches share a single neutral wire. In my home I have 5 of these "common neutral" arrangements, 10 branches altogether. If you see this branch wiring technique please make sure you know what you're doing or hire a competent electrician to complete the work.

Easy Install For Any Handyman
Reliance Transfer switches are high quality / Top-Shelf products. I am a bit of a handyman and far from an electrician but was able to install this product easily. Allow plenty of time to thoroughly plan your install and, obviously, take extreme caution as you attach each breaker.
I would recommend to any handyman to DIY.

Got Everything I Need At One Place
Plain and simple, lost power a few times. Basement flooded bad, (3 inches deep), started researching online. First thing was what to do for back up power. Next was best way to do it. So I needed s system that would supply power for house as well as power for sump pump. I looked into the whole back feeding thing and even asked a bunch of people. All answers came back bad . After research online i found the best prices and help from this company. I had a pro come to house and hook this system up. He was very impressed with the ease of putting this system in and adding it to my electrical panel as well. As he said only thing better would be to have a auto switch rather then my manual one. If your not certain on what to do or what you will need, call them they will walk you threw anything and everything, and hey what a concept, you get to talk with a live English speaking person who knows this stuff inside out and backwards .

Q310c Gave Me A Hard Time
I replaced a Cutler-Hammer direct plug transfer panel with the Q310C. This was done when the surge protectors failed and required the entire panel to be replaced. Unfortunately, after installing the new Q310C, 2 of the circuits on the transfer panel did not work. I contacted Reliance Controls, and sent the unit back for replacement. They fixed the unit and sent it back. Apparently, they found a loose wire. I got out my meter and went through all the test procedures and did find what seemed to be a bad switch in one circuit and another circuit would work in the generator position only if the main utility power was on.
With the fixed panel, I didn't need the 30A or 20A double pole breakers, so I replaced these with 4 20A breakers which gives me 10 circuits.
Also to use the previous concrete screw to mount the Q310C, I needed to replace the 15 1/2" wire cable shield with a 17" shield to get a square box alignment. Since I have a 5500W 20A generator, I couldn't run the AC, dryer, or range anyway, but I can run the heater since that is on a 15A circuit, and everything else in the house except for one outside storage area because that would have required an 11th circuit. This makes the meters more important so that I can gauge the wattage to each pole. I won't have a problem keeping the draw below 2500W on each circuit, but its good to check.
Prior to installation, I tabulated the draw to each pole of the generator and got the best practical balance by a trail and error using a spreadsheet. Then I wired my circuits accordingly.
For this installation, I decided that pulling a 100 foot cable from underneath the basements steps, through the basement and rec room and out through a crack in the patio door was too inconvenient. So this installation was a direct connection by running the cable through the outside wall into a junction box, up around the carport and back down to a 30A power box. I did this since I already had a 20A male plug and 30A female plug from the previous installation and the cost difference of a 20A box vs. a 30A box was less than the cost of a 20A plug.
As I told reliance, the installation of the transfer panel is a piece of cake when there is nothing wrong with it, but if there is it means a lot of extra effort.
I like this panel much better than the Cutler-Hammer, since each circuit is independent and doesn't require all power to be from either the line or generator position, and the breakers are interchangeable.
After testing all the circuits in both the line and generator positions, everything went well.
There might have been a benefit to a problem in the panel. I may not have separated the plug from the stand up freezer and small wine cooler from the basement circuit and added a 20A wire and breaker to the main panel and gave this a separate circuit on the transfer panel. I have a 42" plasma TV, and an outside storage area on the basement circuit, so I wanted to minimize the draw to the basement circuit.

Solidly Built
The generator appearance and finish was great, considering its assembled in PRC. Welds and the finish are solid with no rough spots, excellent paint finish. Lots of times final appearance go hand in hand with longevity. As for the engine and gen, time will tell but for the 5 or so hours I ran it, it was great. Being a splash lube engine, using Mobil 1 is a must to get the most life as oil contamination is the #1 killer for these types of engine. Most of the gen heads sold in mass quantity come from PRC some are good and some are not so good, time will tell for the brushless heads on this gen.
Chose the Q310C a decent transfer switch. Easy to assemble, though I wish the pre-wires were longer or you have to shorten the conduit to get the extra length. Without shortening the conduit, I could not reach the top breakers on the 200 amp panel. This switch is meant for floating neutral generators so do your homework before you buy.
The B&S 30471 is quite simple to remove the bonding of ground and neutral to make it floating, other generators are not. Schematics were included which made life easy. I also made a simple plug in neutral-ground bond if needed to use the gen as a worksite gen. Meter tested my wiring in the service, at the switch, and at the gen fired it up and worked as expected, though the B&S generator is loud. Line service reads 118 volts @ 59.9 hz. B&S Generator read 120.1 volts @60.1 hz with some variation under load, well within my tolerance level, but not for IC equipment. Plan on putting standalone line conditioners for the plasma TV, routers, computers, and entertainment system that will keep voltage and distortion clean.
Ordering was a painless and efficient process, the generator arrived faster than my mail from across town does and cheaper too.

Excellent Online Expirience.
Ordered the Generac 7500 Watt electric start model after doing many hrs of latenight research and comparisons. Wanted a unit that was big enough to run everything but our electric stove and electric dryer and washer. Very simple online procedure after that.
Truck delivered it to my driveway within a week or so as it was a back order item..I was home alone that day and since it weighed 200 lbs, there was no way I was going to get it up our 30 foot handicap ramp to our back porch. So, being a nice sunny day, I cut open the box, installed the wheels and handle within 20 minutes, then wheeled it up the ramp and onto the porch..
Connected the battery, added the oil which came with it, couple gallons of fresh gas, and electric start kicked it on right away... not as loud as I expected it to be..but my older generators never had a muffler like this one.
I also ordered the Reliance 30 amp, 10 interchangeable breaker power transfer box and power inlet box.
Note: I saw a Generac 7000 watt manual start at a major Box store and including tax, was more than what I paid for the 7500 with electric start so I know this was the best deal and the best choice on where to buy all of this from.....A great deal all around and I would recommend this company to everyone.

Emergency Generator
After using a friends generator bought from electric generators direct during the summer to build his house, I decided I'd like to have one for an emergency back up for my house. He told me they had great buys and fast, free delivery service.
Well summer dragged on into fall then winter and I never got around to ordering it. Then wam! the big ice and snow storm came right in the dead of winter and knocked out the power. Just the thing I was worried about happened.
There was no electricity to run the boiler, it could be days before they could restore power and the temps were dropping fast in the house. All I could think of was the pipes freezing and busting.
Luckily the power came back the next morning and I submitted my order for a nice new generator and transfer switch. They came so fast that I still had so much snow and ice on my driveway that I had to meet the tractor trailer driver at a local dinner to transfer my packages to my pick up.
It was well worth it, now like the Scouts, I'm prepared!

Honeywell 7500e Does The Job
There were no problems to report upon first operation. Minimal assembly for the wheels and handles.
Filled it with gasoline and Mobil One Synthetic. Started up instantly when the electric starter button was pushed.
My electrician spent about six and a half hours installing the transfer switch and running the hardwired line to an outside wall where he mounted the receptacle for the generator. Much of the time was spent identifying what exactly was on each circuit and deciding if that was to be powered.
When it was time to test, I cut the main breaker and moved the switches on the transfer to the generator position. Everything worked perfectly.
As others have mentioned, the oil fill dipstick is in a terrible location. I located a funnel with very long spout to assist in oil changes.
The Reliance Q310C 30-amp transfer switch is well designed and has a good solid commercial feel. The documentation is good, though I was unclear about a few references. My electrician barely had to glance at it as he had done several previously.

Quality Product - Straight Forward Installation
I chose this unit based upon the number of circuits I wanted to run.
I used the PB30 power inlet box and the 10 ft long 30 amp power cord for connection to the generator. The Reliance Controls installation instructions are very clear, and the diagrams are very good.
I spent about 8 hrs total installing everything, checking it twice. I experienced no issues once connected to the generator. With a little homework prior to the install, I had a very good power balance according to the analog watt meters. We have a B & S 8500 watt peak 5500 watt continuous portable generator.
Additionally, I am very satisfied with Electric Generators Direct.com. From the time my order was placed until the products arrived, I was kept up-to-date on order status. All products arrived as they were represented on their website.
During the final 4 hours of the install, we lost power due to the incoming ice storm this morning (Dec 23, 2009) -talk about a motivator to get it done!
