Q: All of the transfer switches I am seeing are rated to 7,500 watts and the generator that I want to buy is rated at 8000 running watts (10,000 starting watts). It's the Generac XG8000E. Is there a specific transfer switch panel that i need to purchase for this? I'm looking for 10 circuits.

A: They're basically the same. The difference is a rounding error.

Your generator has a 30-amp outlet. Basically, the electricity created goes through a 30-amp power cord from the generator to the transfer switch.

If you purchase this transfer switch, you'll still need a 30-amp power cord.

It's usually easier and cheaper to buy a complete Power Transfer Kit as a bundled package instead.

Q: Does the Q306C come as pictured with 6 breakers installed, or do I provide the breakers?

A: This product is supplied with a combination of 15- and 20-amp circuit breakers. In some cases, a 30 amp double-pole breaker may be supplied in the A and B positions.
All circuit breaker positions will accommodate 15- and 20-amp circuit breakers, and may be easily changed in the field.

 Q306A MTS Good Product!

Purchased just after the hurricane came through. Factory direct delivery was fairly quick considering the demand. No complaints about this MTS. It's a quality built unit and easy to install by this handy homeowner. It has knockouts to enable a permanent connection to an external input box, definitely the way to go. I love having breaker options, it makes shifting needs (should I have any) easier to deal with, and the meters are a must for proper load balancing.
I wouldn't change a thing, it performs exactly as advertised.
