Reliance Controls 30-Amp (10-Circuit) Power Transfer Kit w/ 25 Foot Cord Review
We recently had a 6 day power outage from a huge windstorm. We combined this transfer switch with the Coleman Powermate 8750 7Kw Generator (PM0497000) and wired it up to balance out the load pretty good. With all the lights in the house on, the furnace, the TV, Amp and DVD player and running the Crockpot we are reasonably below half load on each circuit and thus get about a 10 hr. runtime on a tank of gas. The power meters are an indispensable tool to be able to figure out what you can run at the same time. The quality of construction feels very good. Install was about a 2 hour project but only because we combined the install with tracing out all the circuits in the house and measuring their amperage draw. We also had to cut a hole in the wall for the conduit as our electric panel is recessed. A good electrician with a premade map of what circuits you want backed up could bolt this on to a surface mount panel in about ½ hour to 45 mins. This unit has some good design features. We don’t really have anything we need 240 for so we took advantage of the ability to separate the switch circuits on the 2 240 volt circuits on the transfer switch and use those for 20a 125v circuits for the kitchen GFI, bath GFI and dishwasher. Very convenient. Overall I give this a 5 star rating. Install was easy, features are good, construction is sound and it looks good bolted to the garage wall.

Awesome!
Easy ordering, great follow up, quick delivery and excellent customer service. This Briggs unit powers my well pump, 1st and 2nd floor furnace, hot water heater, kitchen lights and plugs, refrigerator, family room lights and plugs, master bath and the kids bath without a sweat. Easy to operate, easy to store and easy to maintain. We breezed through both Hurricane Irene and the "freak" pre-Halloween snow storm without a problem using this unit (we were without power for 7 days each time). As FYI, I am getting 13 hours per tank with all circuits on. I would recommend this Briggs unit, Reliance transfer switch and buying from electricgeneratorsdirect.com to anyone.

Empty Warranty
The order from generators direct t arrived on-time and withhout instance, it took three days to arrive and was lift gate delivered on time and professionally to my home.
Two days later a licensed electrician installed the transfer panel and tested it. From order placement to final install it took 10 days. Shortly after installation I was encourage to evaluate our selection of circuits installed in the transfer panel. Upon doing so I found that a major kitchen circuit which included the dishwasher had been omitted. I called the electrician and he returned to my home and made the switch. During his second visit he noted that a 20amp. on the transfer panel was not working and suggested that I call Direct Electric, who suggested to me that I call Reliance Controls directly since it was their product and they were responsible for Warranty work and of returns.
At this point their written Warranty only provided for the repair or replacement of the switch, which is a problem since the panel had already been installed . I indicated this to the gentleman at Reliance and he said that this was all they could do, repair or replace, without any consideration for the front end expense of having to install it to find out that it failed. To me this Warranty is worthless, however he did say that he would send me out a new 20 am.circut breaker. I spoke to him over a week ago, and as yet to receive it. And when and it it does arrive, I will still be responsible for the additional cost of having it installed.
Needless to say I am not a happy customer.

Transfer Switch
My electrician installed my control switch in just a couple of hours. Appeared to be simple and straightforward to install.
With having 10 circuits I was able to put everything I need power for, and then some. If and when I have a power outage I wont have to worry about pipes freezing or losing a freezer full of food, and still be able to have most of the luxuries electricity provides.
