Q: Hello Josh, I have a question about the Honda EU2000i generator with two 20 amp outlets. It is rated at 16.3amps at its full load of 2000 watts. It says it can handle the 2000 for a half hour. Would the reliance transfer switch model 15114a be the right one since it can only handle 15amps and 1800w max? I will be using it on 4-15 amp breakers. It does have the correct 5-15 type male receptacle. Or would it be better to buy a 20 amp kit and buy adapters because the generators has 5-15 type receptacles? thank you, chuck

by Chuck W. from New Jersey on September 30, 2013

A: Thank you for your inquiry!

The Reliance Controls, 15114A is a good option for use with the EU2000IA1. While it would not allow your generator to be pushed to the full 2000 watt output, you will still be able to handle the standard 1600 watt output with up to 1875 watts of surge power.

My recommendation would be to use this kit with the standard EU2000. Another option could be to use the companion unit with a 30 amp, 120 volt transfer switch although this would be a slightly greater cost.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Regarding this single phase model, it says rated at 15 amps yet has four 15 amp circuits. Is the total power limited to 15 amps split across the four circuits?
by Chad from Tennessee on April 14, 2011

A: The maximum input for this switch is 15A at 120V. Manual transfer switches with multiple circuits gives the option to wire in several circuits from the home with management by the home owner as long as you do not exceed the wattage or amperage load of the generator or switch.

The calculation for this is Amps x Volts = Watts (15A x 125V = 1875W Max)

Excellent Transfer Switch For Use With Honda Eu2000i
Great product with easy to follow installation video. I'm able to power my refrigerator / freezer, gas furnace, main lights, master bedroom, router, cable box, and 60 inch LED TV with plenty of power to spare. I contacted Reliance Controls on two separate occasions and found their technical support staff to be exceptionally knowledgable and helpful. I don't think you can go wrong with this generator and transfer switch.
Pros: Easy To Use, I'd Buy It Again, High Quality, Exceeded Expectations

Very Good
High quality unit. Had simple to understand instructions. Class A pre-wiring. Note...will not work with ark-fault circuit breakers. (required in new construction) on bedroom receptacle circuits.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again

Perfect For Emergencies For My Yamaha 2000w Portable Generator
During the last 2 years we had 2 hurricane events here on long island new york which caused me to buy my generator from PED and they shipped it to me within 24 hours which was the day the storm hit. I lived without power for 6 days and also for 5 days when hurricane Sandy hit last year.

I had the generator but I had extension cords everywhere...one to the garage door opened one to the refrigerator upstairs another to the kitchen and another to the master bedroom. I had 3 way connectors to... more

I Would Recommend The 30a Same Model But Not This One
I purchased this one by mistake really. They make another one that is identical BUT it can handle 30 amps where as this one can only handle 15 amps. The cost is a little more but you cant run much on a 4 circuit 15 amp 120v but the 30 amp model much better IMO. same part number just change the 15 to 30 and you should find it.
Cons: Expensive

Poor Quality Contol
I basically bought a 30 amp and a 115 amp four circuit transfer switches. After reading how great they were I was convinced that these switched were the way to go. So I started installation. The first problem was that the Reliance armored cable was too short. I also found that they supply 2 right angle connectors. That was annoying, especially if you live in a older house and the circuit breaker box isn't that accessible. I had to get a straight connector, well 2 of them!

They say the wire... more

"I called EGD for some wiring question, the person that answered the phone, well lets say he read from a script and then gave the wrong advise, and no I didn't get his name. All I asked was about generator distance to the switch and wire gauge. And asked about a alternative approved wire. All he kept saying is "use the wire stated in the directions". Well it was the same wire just in a different configuration. He also was a little rude, I guess I should have asked to speak to a supervisor. I got better help from Lowe's than him!!!"

Loving It!
Awesome. I have the furnace, MB, LR and Kitchen lights connected to it. Our power went out 2 weeks after it was installed.

No stress this time- I moved my EU2000I from the garage to the back of the house, cranked it, plugged the cord..walaaaa! We had heat and lights.

The reason I did not gave it a 5-star rating because there was no DVD installation guide in the box; I had to look for it on YouTube.

Surviving The Next Power Outage
I purchased this transfer switch to run the fridge, furnace and the recessed lights on both floors. My electrician installed the panel in about 90 minutes and we tested it by shutting off the main power. At first I was concerned about running the fridge on a 15 amp circuit as opposed to the 20 amp in the main panel but it does not appear to be a problem (so far) as it ran everything I needed. The panel is powered by my Yamaha 2400iSHC and a standard medium duty outdoor extension cord.

Yamaha Ef2000is & Reliance Controls 15114a 15a 4 Circuit Mts
Bought this generator for several reasons:

-It's quiet
-It's high quality
-It's fuel efficient
-It's small & light

Unlike others in my neighborhood I really don't need a 5 or 10kW to keep every appliance in my house running in a power outage. This Yamaha combined with the reliance transfer switch easily powers my necessities and sips gas while doing so. It's tough to keep running out to get 5 gallons a day when gas is limited. It's small and light enough that even fully fueled,... more

Awesome Transfer Switch
I bought this to go with my Yamaha 2400 inverter generator. It was easy to install once I watched a couple of YouTube videos. I had one question while installing, I called Reliance Controls customer service, got right through, and got an answer. Finished the installation in a snap, and it works like a charm. What more could a person ask for?
Pros: Easy To Use, Price
Cons: Bad Instructions
