Q: We bought this model (Powermate PM0601250 - 12,500 Watt) from you guys, and we're curious what the best options are for silencing the noise. We've read anything from switching out for a car muffler to ATV silencer to a soundproof box. Can you make a suggestion? In the event that a muffler is the way to go, s an automotive welder or a specific Powermate/generator service shop the best alternative to do the work? by Kendrick Blackstock from Georgia on February 07, 2012
A: We do not offer any type of or recommend any aftermarket mufflers. Any alterations to the original equipment will void the warranty. Powermate does not offer any replacement mufflers.
Engine cc rating is based on compression ratio, intake and exhaust so if you try and change the muffler you will change the engine performance and can damage the generator.
Changing the exhaust system is Not recommended.

Q: Can I run a 3-ton central AC with generator? by Ileana from Florida on August 27, 2011
A: Yes, it has enough power to turn over a small 3-ton air conditioner. We don't recommend it for larger 5-ton models.
However, you'll need to get the electricity from the generator to the air conditioner.
You'll need to get a 50-amp power transfer system and have an electrician wire it to your main electrical panel.

I did research for over a year before I purchased this unit. This unit is a home run in the major leagues. Everything is well thought out and build well. A quality piece of equipment.

Very satisfied
This generator is definitely one of the best out on the market for it's type. Living in Houston, TX requires a generator if you plan on making it through what Mother Nature throws at us now and then.
I did a lot of research and there are many generators out that claim power capacities but the ads are misleading. You have to know what you need and find out the facts about the generator ratings before you buy.
This 12kW generator from Powermate is simple yet built to last. The Subaru/Robin engine has the features that you need to ensure reliability and long life.
Like anytging else proper maintenance is the key. The generator itself is a quality unit that uses quality materials and a simple design. A lot of time was spent looking for the right generator head and this is one of the best ones. When buying a generator, look for features that will last rather than fancy electronics that will fail over time due to long term storage.
The power output is what is truly going to make or break a generator. This unit puts the full power rating, 50A, to the main plug outlet rather than splitting the power across the multiple outlets typically provided. Some units claim to be rated the same but will not allow the full power to one outlet.
Overall the folks at EGD are great to deal with, followed through with the order, and the shipping company, R&L Shipping, delivered the heavy unit on time, with no issues at all.
The driver even pulled the unit down a very long driveway and placed it exactly where my shipping instruction were to drop it. Very satisfied with the delivery service provided.
You won't be disappointed with this Powermate generator and thanks to EGD for great customer service and a great deal.

This is a great generator and a workhorse at that!
But, if you buy one of these be prepared to have a jump start battery on hand. These things have been in storage long enough that their storage batteries are basically dead. Mine had a reading of 4.2 volts, definitely not enough to turn over the starter, let alone the 22 HP Subaru engine.
Imagine my disappointment when I uncrated the generator, put on the wheel kit, put the oil in, mixed up some sta-bil fuel, hooked up the battery, and when I turned the key.....Nothing!!! I jumped the battery with battery cables and it came right to life. You would think they would send out another battery but noooo! I was directed to 3 service sites in my area. And this thing hadn't even been out of the box an hour yet.
