Q: We bought this model (Powermate PM0601250 - 12,500 Watt) from you guys, and we're curious what the best options are for silencing the noise. We've read anything from switching out for a car muffler to ATV silencer to a soundproof box. Can you make a suggestion? In the event that a muffler is the way to go, s an automotive welder or a specific Powermate/generator service shop the best alternative to do the work?
by Kendrick Blackstock from Georgia on February 07, 2012

A: We do not offer any type of or recommend any aftermarket mufflers. Any alterations to the original equipment will void the warranty. Powermate does not offer any replacement mufflers.

Engine cc rating is based on compression ratio, intake and exhaust so if you try and change the muffler you will change the engine performance and can damage the generator.

Changing the exhaust system is Not recommended.

Q: Can I run a 3-ton central AC with generator?
by Ileana from Florida on August 27, 2011

A: Yes, it has enough power to turn over a small 3-ton air conditioner. We don't recommend it for larger 5-ton models.

However, you'll need to get the electricity from the generator to the air conditioner.

You'll need to get a 50-amp power transfer system and have an electrician wire it to your main electrical panel.

This 12,500 watt generator is powered by a Subaru EH65 engine with auto engine shut off for low oil. This model has an 8 gallon fuel tank with an easy to read fuel gauge. The generator gets 6 hours of run time at 50% load.

The AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) keeps equipment protected from voltage surges. There are two 5-20R 20 Amp Duplexes, one L14-30R 30 Amp Twistlock & a 14-50R 50 Amp Plug.

The 13 inch pneumatic wheels make it easy to transport. There is a 3 year warranty... more

Mother Nature Bring It On
Bought this to replace a 2000 watt 38-year-old generator that I used in a three-day outage from last winter's ice storm. As a electrical maintenance person by trade I added my transfer panel wiring and outside receptacle myself. The main reason I chosen this generator, because of the 12,500 running watts and 50 amp 120-240 volt outlet which is maximum wattage for a 50 amp circuit. It's enough to run the water heater, or a 2 ton central air conditioning unit and other necessities in my house. more

An Elegant Beast
After researching upgrades from my previous Generac GP8000 (a fine machine) I finally settled on the Powermate 12,500 kW unit.
Assembly of wheel set, front supports and battery lock down was easy. Battery was charged. Added supplied oil and started immediately.

Tested it on the dedicated 50 amp circuit/panel that I up sized from the previous and it powered up all my circuits flawlessly. I bought it due to the size (it is supplying the max wattage a 50 amp circuit can handle ), the fact... more

A Major Work Horse
I Did My Own Research For About a Year, Deciding On What Generator Would Suit My House Which Is All Electric.

I Finally Decided, With the Help of My Electrician, to Purchase the Powermate 12500 This Summer.

During This Recent Storm "Sandy", I Was Seven Days Without Power and This Unit Out-Performed All Expectations I Had.

It Is Without a Doubt a "Workhorse" That Ran For 132 Hours During the Seven Day Stretch Without a Hitch.

Very Satisfied
This generator is definitely one of the best out on the market for it's type. Living in Houston, TX requires a generator if you plan on making it through what Mother Nature throws at us now and then.

I did a lot of research and there are many generators out that claim power capacities but the ads are misleading. You have to know what you need and find out the facts about the generator ratings before you buy.

This 12kW generator from Powermate is simple yet built to last. The Subaru/Robin... more

Worth Every Penny
This ran flawlessly during Sandy. 12 days without power and my whole house is electric (well pump, electric hot water heater, etc.)

I wired it directly into my panel and just managed the breakers. This machine is top quality- the Robin Subaru engine is built to last and with regular maintenance will still be running long after others have crapped out.

Money well spent!!

Powermate Pm0601250 - 12,500 Watt Electric Start Generator W/ Subaru Engine Review
This is a great generator and a workhorse at that!

But, if you buy one of these be prepared to have a jump start battery on hand. These things have been in storage long enough that their storage batteries are basically dead. Mine had a reading of 4.2 volts, definitely not enough to turn over the starter, let alone the 22 HP Subaru engine.

Imagine my disappointment when I uncrated the generator, put on the wheel kit, put the oil in, mixed up some sta-bil fuel, hooked up the battery, and... more

Wow
I did research for over a year before I purchased this unit. This unit is a home run in the major leagues. Everything is well thought out and build well. A quality piece of equipment.
