This Generator is a Winner
I got this generator after the bad storm last September and powered most of what needed to be powered by using extension cords for ten hours.
I have since had a 10-circuit transfer switch installed. Earlier this week I used it for 14 hours, providing us with water, light, computers, TVs (and surround sound), a fridge and separate freezer, microwave, and stove.
I plan on having another 6-circuit transfer switch installed and powering more lights. I only wish it was big enough to power the AC, but that requires a separate 50-amp circuit.

Need Coleman parts
I have only about 25 hours on this Powermate and it no longer produces power.
The Honda engine is wonderful but there is no voltage being generated at all. So basically, I have a great engine but no generator. It will cost me out of pocket to have it fixed if the service center can get parts. The service manager said parts are a problem.
EGD RESPONDS: As we post on our web site, no one has yet bought Coleman Powermate's assets. However, the old service center site is still active at http://www.powermate.com/servicecenters.php, which may help you locate parts in your area.

Powermate PM0497000.02 - 7000 Watt Portable Generator w/ Honda Engine Review
I like everything about this unit. The shipper service was very poor, however, everything else was good. Very prompt processing and delivery by the supplier. Before I could start or run the unit I had to install a longer fuel line from the tank shut off valve to the engine, the one it came with was too short and created a kink which restricted the fuel flow dramatically. Was not a big deal and it runs great now. The Honda 13 HP engine is way louder than I expected even though it has a giant muffler, I'll accept the noise for the Honda reliability and long life expectancy.

Powermate PM0497000.02 - 7000 Watt Portable Generator w/ Honda Engine Review
Recently used this generator during an icestorm lost power for 2.6 days. It was very easy to use and with a transfer switch its like never having to lose power. This is an awesome machine and would reccomend anyone to purchase it.

Powermate PM0497000.02 - 7000 Watt Portable Generator w/ Honda Engine Review
I purchased a Powermate 5000 during a major ice storm that crippled Kansas City a few years ago. We ran the generator for 10 days straight, until power was finally restored. Since then we've used it in two more outages that lasted a few days. It powered the furnace, refergerator and other misc power needs without a atrain. Since then I've added a manual 6 position transfer switch. No house should be without one. The 5000 runs all night on 5 gallons of gas. Great buy!

Powermate PM0497000.02 - 7000 Watt Portable Generator w/ Honda Engine Review
We recently had a 6 day power outage from a huge windstorm. This generator was able to run all the lights in the house, the furnace blower on the gas furnace, the media room and all the movie gear, the microwave and dishwasher (though not those two at the same time) the computers and DSL modem, refrigerator and freezer. We combined it with the Reliance 10 circuit 30a power transfer switch and wired it up to balance out the load pretty good. With all the lights in the house on, the furnace, the TV, Amp and DVD player and running the Crockpot we are reasonably below half load on each circuit and thus get about a 10 hr. runtime on a tank of gas. Overall the only thing I was disappointed in is the loudness of the generator. The specs say it is one of the quieter ones and maybe it is, but it is still a little louder than I expected. Overall it works quite well and doesn’t choke when you turn on the coffeemaker like the 4Kw one we had before. 4 ½ stars. Would be a 5 with a slightly quieter muffler. Powermate PM0497000.02 - 7000 Watt Portable Generator w/ Honda Engine Review
I purchased this generator after a 2 day power outage in January. It sat in the garage until this past weekend when we where without power once again. Unit started right up and we were up and running in no time.
Generally, I am impressed with this generator, I don’t keep gas in the unit as the fuel tank is vented and I don’t want the gas fumes in the garage.
I would recommend this generator to anyone who needs more then just the bare necessities during a blackout.
