I owned a 25 year old Powermate 4kW with a B&S engine so when it was time for a bigger one I went with Powermate again. I love the new Powermate's Honda Engine. It starts first time every time with one easy pull. I like the simplicity of the connections - No nonsense means reliability and serviceability to me.
Dislikes are: The generator while assembled in Nebraska is made of engine made in Thialand and the generator looks like all the other Chinese sets. The tires on mine were no-flat but one went flat!?! Those tires are not suitable for the weight of the genset. I see they have pneumatic tires on them now - good choice. The 110 volt output of the generator set off my open ground alarm. So I grounded the common lead (white wire) to the ground (green wire) in the outlet. Not sure why it had a floating ground to begin with? The choke on the engine does not always go off automatically when it warms up. Most times it does but sometimes it doesn't.
Not too disappointed but next time I'll probably try a Generac for more US made parts.
