Q: Hi Jim I bought a Powermate PM0105007 - 5000 watt gas power electric generator from home depot. The engine is a RATO made in china. Am I going to be ok with this? by John Miller from Washington on January 22, 2012
A: Yes, you should be find with this engine. Engines from China have been in the US for 8 - 9 years and have really had no major issues over the last 5 years and parts are typically accessible if needed.
The key is to do proper maintenance such as running the unit every week to every couple of weeks to keep the internals proper lubricated and prevent moisture build-up.
This also gives piece of mind knowing it is going to work when you need it.
Proper oil changes and using clean fresh fuel with a fuel stabilizer is extremely important.
Read the owner's manual from cover to cover as there is usually a ton of information that is extremely helpful.
I love this generator. I first purchased a 5,000 watt generator and was very disappointed with the noise level. I returned that unit and purchased the Powermate 3000. I was worried that it would not have enough power to run everything that I wanted, but I was willing to rotate each appliance in order to have a quieter unit. It turns out that my appliances were new energy efficient models and therefore 3,000 watts (3,750 surge) was enough to run everything I needed at a much lower noise level than the 5,000 watt unit that I started with. It was also less expensive, uses less fuel and weight about 60 pounds less than the 5,000 watt unit (not a powermate). For me, this is the perfect generator and electric generators direct was great to deal with.

Nice 3000W 3750w Peak Electric Generator
Ordered this generator and it was delivered 8-10 days later. in fact it was delivered prior to the email that Electric Generators Direct sent notifying me that it would be delivered. The generator arrived in excellent condition. It was delivered in a box, on a skid, with lots of plastic wrap holding the box securely to the skid. Assembly was minimal and easy. After adding 20 oz of oil and filling the tank with gasoline and fuel stabilizer, the manual start RATO engine started on the second pull. I ran it for 5 min then closed the fuel valve and let the engine stall when it ran out of fuel in the carburetor. So far so good. Time will tell whether the RATO OHV engine is durable. Overall, the generator looks sturdy with AVR, hour meter and fuel gauge. While it was running it was reasonably quiet. It is easy to move with large wheels and dual handles. I am ready for the next power outage.

Good Generator
Generator is well worth it. It had no problem running all the power for our 30ft travel trailer. Started on the first pull. Very good on fuel. I would recommenced this unit you if you are in need for something like this.
