Q: Hi Jim,

My HW2000i will run for about 3 minutes, then it dies. It has spark. This unit has a very low run-time. I just installed a new spark plug, but no luck.

by Travis from Ohio on April 07, 2011

A: If the unit is dying after 3 minuets of running then most likely the vent cap on top of the gas cap is not opened. When this is not opened it can create a vacuum in the fuel system which will then shut the unit down for lack of fuel flow.

If this is not the cause of the shut down you will need to bring the unit to a local Honeywell/Generac service dealer for assistance. The link below will help you find one in your area.

Q: We bought one previously and liked it, but it was extremely hard to start. I could pull and pull and it wouldn't start. Ended up returning it, but really liked the way it worked. Was this a common occurrence with this model and if so is there a remedy for it or has it been corrected?

If I did repurchase one, what happens if I run into the same problem again?

Thanks for your help!

by Doug Bourne from California on January 25, 2011

A: Previously Honeywell had a primer bulb on this model generator and due to lack of fuel being pushed into the carburetor they decided to change the fuel delivery system to a gravity fed system which helped with the starting issues.

The one recommendation for starting of these units is to have a full tank of fuel to assist with the gravity feed system and in turn helps with starting.

Any issues with the unit after purchase and use/fueling would have to be brought to a local Honeywell service center.

You can find the nearest service center from the following link.

Q: Do i need a special cord for the dc output on the Honeywell 2000i generator?
by Gary on January 23, 2011

A: Honeywell does not offer the 12VDC connection on their inverter generators any more and was removed back in 2010. They have not updated their specification sheets yet but have updated the main photo which shows the lack of 12VDC connection.

How To Help With The Starting.
I have went through all these stories like everyone else. This Honeywell is a POS. But after a year of battling to get it started. I took it apart down to pulling the throttle body off. I'll tell you this isn't a walk in the park there's lots of little screws and bolts. Take the bottom of the bowl off and looking up through the center you will see a set screw, this is a flathead. There is a little hole in the center of this and mine was plugged right from the day I bought it. I cleaned the... more

We are sorry to hear of the issues with your Honeywell generator. We appreciate the feedback though as this could help many others in possibly finding the issue their problem. We always value reviews like this and think Honeywell would as well. Giving them a call to let them know may allow them to correct this mistake which likely has not been fixed (888) 494-3571.

How To Start An Inverter Generator
Let's be honest. Operators manuals are so boring.

It's a lot easier to watch this video from Honeywell instead!

Great With A Few Quirks
I really like this generator, although it does have a few quirks. I purchased it a couple years back. I considered getting a Honda or Yamaha but figured I would give the Honeywell a try since it was about half the cost.

I like the idea of the inverter generators due to cleaner power output for sensitive electronics. I have used a Kill-a-watt meter on this and it does output 120v 60 Hz at varying loads. It also achieves its rated 2000w output.

I have used it a couple times during power... more

Hard Starting Cure
Here's how I fixed my hard start problem. I got rid of the in-line fuel filter and replaced it with a 1/4 inch diameter steel tube. ALWAYS prime and choke before pulling rope.

Should Have Read Reviews
Well unfortunately I didn't check reviews. This unit is a total waste of time and money. Started one time and never again without 20 minutes of pulling and now no chance. Mower shop won't even look at it. DO NOT BUY! Save yourself the aggravation . It's too bad I have to give it one star. I wish zero was an option

Bad Product - Do Not Waste Your Money
I purchased a HW 2001 generator from a dealer off ebay in August 2011. Thought I could save a few bucks since I was only going to use it on hunting trips for my travel trailer. Cold blooded little red head and does not like cold weather which is another major problem. I have been around motors, engines, chain saws and the like all my life. Have never seen or experienced and product this bad. Took it turkey hunting in AZ remote country last week and could not get it started no matter what I did.... more

Waste Of Money
The worst piece of equipment I have ever bought . Will not start after more than 50 pulls. Mine does not have the primer bulb . The instructions say to have a full tank of fuel as the carb is gravity fed , does not matter .

Bad Choice/ Should Have Got A Honda
No wonder it's discontinued its junk and I should have bought a Honda! I bought in in nov 2010 and it ran my Rv okay twice and then it starting running rough after the one year warranty ran out, it blew the fuse on my motorized RV TV lift 3 times because after I stopped running the generator for the RV it did not blow the fuse. It's now running rough at idle and full throttle.I believe there's a problem with the voltage and I'm stuck with a lemon!

I learned my lesson i will buy a Honda now, and not have to... more

I bought this generato on faith that Honeywell wouldn't put their name on a piece of junk.... Wrong-o...Simple story if it won't start it's worthless. No stars from me.
