Q: Does this generator have a 12v output capability? by CJ from California on March 10, 2011
A: This size inverter generator does not come with a 12V output. If you are looking to charge batteries you could purchase a standard battery charger that plugs into a 120V outlet and then you can use this model to connect to. Note: just make sure the wattage requirements of the charger are not higher then the generator output. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I drive a diesel truck and need a inexpensive way to keep the batteries charged when I have to sit or sleep for 8 hours without running the truck. I run a sleep machine, a 12v refrigerator and charge my laptop and phones. What options do you have? Thank You by Fredric from Utah on February 09, 2011
A: Depending on the amperage of everything, something like this would most likely work for you, but you may want to upgrade to something a little larger to give you a little more power if needed. What may happen is when you have everything going at the same time, some items may have trouble getting started. I would suggest something like a 2000 watt inverter for this job. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I'm looking at the Honeywell HW1000i - 900 Watt Portable Inverter Generator. I need to power a PA system for a boat parade. Basically a 100 watt guitar amplifier. Will this do the trick. Also, the generator needs to be quiet. This sounds right. by John Ritchie from Florida on January 23, 2011
A: As long as your wattage needs do not exceed 80% capacity of the generator, it will have enough output to give you clean voltage without overloading the unit.
It is best to check the starting amperage of the equipment you are powering and then do the calculations to convert to watts. Starting Amps x Volts = Watts
Inverter generators are inherently quiet due to the smaller engine and the tight enclosure, however, some models tend to be quieter then others.
The following model would be classified as one of the quietest we have.
So far so good, I followed the directions and it started on the second pull. We were surprised at how fast it got to our home.
So far we have only done a few test runs and all has gone well. It seems that it will serve our purpose just fine.

Compact Travel Trailer
This is a nice unit and is priced well. I purchased it to carry with a small travel trailer in order to have power when boondocking to charge the battery and to use a few of the 110V appliances.
I misjudged, and discovered that the little microwave which came with the trailer draws a full 900 W, so that part of the deal did not work out. Fortunately we had a microwave which will fit into the space, and which only draws about 6.6 amps, so we are in the process of swapping those two units.
I haven't used the generator much, but it is quiet and seems like a good piece of equipment.

Small Generator For Use With Motor Home.
I wanted a small generator to run TV and satellite in motor home so I wouldn't have to run my large on board generator. To save gas.
Purchased this Honeywell 1000 ( I wanted the next one up but it is not legal in good old California)
The unit arrived in good condition but proved to be a bear to start. I followed the instructions to the letter but no start. I found that it was not creating a spark. I believe the low oil switch was to blame.
I ended up laying the generator on it right side for a couple seconds then on it left side for a couple seconds and then right side up. The next pull it fired right up and works fine.
When I tried to use it to power the TV and satellite while camping with the motor home I realize that it was twice as loud as my on board generator. I could here the little bugger howling even with all the doors and windows closed.
Its loudness is its major fault. I will be selling this model and will purchase something locally where I can hear it running before I purchase

Meets Our Expectations
This little generator started on the first pull and works good. Craftsmanship seems to be adequate and the instructions were very easy to follow. Everything is included, except for the liquids of course.
We haven't been able to compare the sound output to other brands but the volume is acceptable to us. The econo switch is a nice feature that allows it to operate at a lower rpm and volume level when high output isn't required.
So far we are very pleased and we spent a lot of time researching generators. I would recommend this model to anybody looking for a low cost entry level generator that should work as advertised.
Electric Generators Direct exceeded our expectations with this order, and I would recommend them to anybody.

Starting the HW1000i
I received my Honeywell HW 1000i generator a couple of days ago and I think I may have discovered the basis for some of the reports of hard starting. When I was filling the oil and fuel tank I pulled the spark plug to inspect it. To my surprise it was badly fouled.
If I saw a plug this bad on a small engine I would have guessed it would not run, let alone start. I assume that they put some cylinder lube oil in the top of the cylinder at manufacturing time. Then depending on how long the generator waits before test more of less of the oil gets deposited on the plug in the form of carbon (conducting). That’s my theory but the condition of the plug was not a theory it was obviously bad.
I cleaned and re-gapped the plug. It started on the second pull. Subsequently it has always started on the 2nd or 3rd pull,
I also tested the voltage, frequency, and waveform both no load and at 800 watts. The voltage and frequency were dead on spec. and the waveform was a clean sine wave.
They could have done a better job on the location of the oil filler, but all in all it seems to be a great bargain.

Tailgating Generator
I received the generator, followed the instructions and the generator started on the first pull.
Used the generator for tailgating at the USC football game.
Worked very well

bought two, one works
Both were delivered on time.
I tried to start the first one out of the box with no luck. Tried to start the 2nd one and had no problem.
I called product support and was referred to closest authorized repair center. Took it to the repair center where it remains waiting parts.

Need a different repair shop
Bought the generator from Electric Generators Direct a year ago. Bought it to use tailgating. I made sure to use the recommended gas. First time I used it, last year, it cranked good and ran good. Next time it was hard to crank but ran good. The next time it would not crank at all and had to be put in the repair shop. I was only able to use it 2 times that football season.
I am about to use it for the first time this football season and it will not stay running when the choke is off. This produce should not be having this much trouble as new as it is. I would not recommend this produce. It has been a pain in the rear. Now I have no confidence in it.
EGD RESPONDS: It sounds as though the unit might not have been properly adjusted by the repair shop.
Honeywell's web site only lists one repair location in your area, so please give Honeywell a call (toll free) at (888) 494-3571 to see if they have any other locations nearby that might do a better job. They might also have an easy fix they can help you with over the phone.
The unit comes with a 2 year Factory Warranty, so we hope you'll be up and running by game time.

Better than expected at a quarter of the price.
Bought it to run a fifth wheel converter to charge the batteries. A draw of 2.3 amps- no problem. I added the fridge at 4.4 amps- no problem.
I added three lights at 5.1 amps- again, no problem. Added the water pump for 6 amps total. Once again, no problem.
I ran it for 3 hours to break it in. So, far so good. I'm very happy with it so far.
I was worried about it being made with foreign parts. I thought that was funny. I was standing there in my Chinese boots, my Mexican-made pants and shirt, all name brand clothing and driving my Mexican-made Ford truck with 150,000 miles on it.
It didn't make any sense. Everything is made all over the world. I would bet that those high price generators are not made with Japanese parts alone and have foreign parts from all over the world. The only difference would be the labor.
This seems to be well made. I tightened all the screws before starting. Filled the engine oil to the right level. Removed some oil from the air filter. Added gas and two pulls later it started right up.

PUTTING IT TO THE TEST
I Was Hesitant to Purchase After Reading the Hard Starting Reviews.
I Called the Tech Support and Was Told the Current Model Has Been Upgraded to a Gravity Fed Tank Instead of a Primer Bulb.
Based On This Info and Mostly Good Reviews, I Ordered and Received It in a Couple of Days. Good Response.
I Opened the Box and Read the Manual. Very Important to Follow Switch Settings. I Carefully Filled the Oil and Checked the Level to Manual. a Cup of Just Purchased Regular Gas Was Poured in.
Two Pulls With the Choke On and It Started. I Let It Run Out of Gas and Stall. Another Cup of Gas and 4 Pulls On An Empty Carb With No Choke and It Started.
Turned the Gas Off, and Let It Stall Again. This Time, I Used the Choke and 1 Pull to Start.
I Plugged in An Extension With a Drill and a Circular Saw At the Same Time With Total Watts Draw Just Under 800. With Both Running, But Using 1 At a Time, I Could Drill or Saw With No Detectable Increase in Generator Noise.
Almost as Quiet as the Expensive Unit. I Let It Run Dry Until Next Use.
We Are Now Looking Into a Lcd Tv/Dvd and Microwave For Cruises On the Sailboat.

Quiet and powerful
I already owned a large generator and needed just a small output unit that was quiet.
After receiving my Honeywell 1000i I'm very pleased with it. Its quiet operation is just what I'd been looking for and it puts out more power than I expected from such a small unit.

Starter cord won't retract
I just got the generator. I only started it three times. Total run time about 10 minutes.
On the fourth start try, the starter chord stayed out and did not retract. I will now have to drive several miles to a Honeywell service center and not have it for my camping trip.
Too bad because it is light and fairly quiet.

GREAT LITTLE GENERATOR!!!: Update
This generator is still going strong!!!
I forgot to mention that we also use it for everyday stuff, including connecting to fans to just sit outside with the kids in the backyard, and it doesn't disturb our very quiet in our subdivision.
You CAN NOT go wrong with this buy.
Thanks again, Electric Generators Direct.com, for the excellent price !!

Great Little Generator!!!
I have thoroughly researched portable and quiet generators for taking to my sons' baseball games for weeks..I almost bought the Yamaha 900 but saw this one for a lot cheaper.
I decided if it was not satisfactory, I would just send it back...We are very PLEASED!!
We have taken it to a few games and have had so many people comment on how quiet it is. It was as quiet as the Honda E2000 that our friends were using.
One thing to note is that when you first start it, it sounds a little louder than the Honda, but I think that is because it assumes it is at full load. Once you have put it on efficiency mode, it tones ALL the way down.
Also, it started on the first pull.
Good job Honeywell....
