Q: Will the HW model 6066 which runs 2000 with 2200 surge watts run a side by side refrigerator? Whirlpool told me I needed 1500 watts, but I think start up suck more power.. Basically I am looking for a cover my a generator, that will take care of essential needs albeit temporary needs on an as needed basis. Will this unit work? by Mick Scheid from Colorado on July 23, 2011
A: You may be able to run just the refrigerator alone but nothing else. The larger the generator the better off you are because then the generator is not working as hard and will last you longer over the long term. You can calculate the starting wattage with the following formula: Starting Amps x Volts = Watts.
This is the 6th or 7th of these that I bought. Every other unit works without thinking about it. Start it, and it does start every time, and they run. They run, run, run. This particular unit worked for 6 hours. Shut off. Won't restart.
Of course I can't find a service guy for it. Honeywell lists service guys who, when you call them, say they don't service those units. What a bummer.
EGD: This model carries a 2 year warranty from the manufacturer. We suggest contacting Honeywell directly if you're having trouble finding a service center. http://www.honeywellgenerators.com/ServiceAndSupport/

Wanted a Honda but got a Honeywell
I bought the generator to run a pump. The pump is sensitive to current fluctuations and, in the past, I have had to rent a Honda 2000i generator. I received the generator quickly, put the fuel and oil in, and started it. It started quickly but ran rough. The generator engine idle for the first two minutes went up and down and had an exhaust pop. The generator was never run with the ECON switch on. Two other people that were standing by stated "that doesn't sound right".
I have 12 other different watt sized generators that I use and none of them sounded like this when they were first started. After the first two minutes, the engine stabilized but seamed to idle high. I hooked the pump up and it worked until the top range of the pump and then the pump turned off. The pump stated "over voltage 4.4 amps and 151 volts". I had the Honda unit, so I hooked it up and ran the pump the same way and the pump never turned off.
I called Electric Generators Direct and they stated that I could not return the generator and that I would have to call Honeywell. I called Honeywell and they said that the generator is a Generac unit with a Honeywell name and that I would have to call Generac. I called Generac and they said that I would have to take the generator to one of their repair shops. I called the closest shop and told them what was happening and he said that he works on engines not electronics and that I should go somewhere else. I called back Generac and they asked me to contact another shop 25 miles away. I called that shop and they asked me to bring them the generator to look at it.
At the shop, the repair person started, ran, and then hooked up equipment that would simulate a power draw. This equipment had meters that read everything that was going on. He ran it to 2000 watts and read the meters and turned off the generator. He told me that the generator produces too much distortion and at higher watts, sensitive equipment will not run. As for the rough sounding engine, he wants me to run the generator for a total of 10 hours. He wants me to bring it back if it still sounds rough.
For general purposes, this generator is probably fine. However, if you are going to push the envelope and use it at higher watts, it might not operate your "sensitive" equipment (computers, high-end electronics). In that case, you might be better off spending the extra money for a Honda. This is not a Honda, but if you don't need top quality, this generator should work! Just remember, you can't return it!

Honeywell
This generator runs well and it started right up. But buyers be ware this generator will not run a air conditioning unit. I read some reviews that said it would. fan yes but the compressor overloads it so dont buy it with the intention of running your air. Its not near as quiet as the Honda more like my Coleman 1850 but then again it didn't cost 1200.00 either to bad they haven't come out with a set up like Honda so you can run two of them together. That's the way I see it.

Very Pleased
GENERATOR WAS ON A TWO WEEK BACK ORDER WHEN WE ORDERED - it was delivered a week early - followed instructions on adding oil, gas, prime, and choke - it started on the second pull.
After a 5 minute warm up I hooked it to our RV. Ran it for half an hour and everything worked fine.
So far we are very pleased and looking forward to using it camping and in our travels.

Very Happy!
Purchased this generator as and upgrade for my old one. Was looking for something alittle smaller, quiter, and more fuel efficient. When I order the generator it was on a 10 day backorder list. The company said as soon as the generators came in it would be 2-3 days, so 10-13 days waiting time. Needless to say I got the unit after just 9 days. So I was very impressed with the delivery service. Another thing which had me sold when I came upon this website was the free shipping and tax free. But overall I'm very satisfied with this generator so far. But only time use will tell it's true durability, and overall performance.
