Q: I'm interested in a Honda EU 6500 for my home. What all will this power up in my home? by Kevin Hodges from Mississippi on September 03, 2012
A: You would be able to cover all of the basics; lights/fridge/sump pumps and tv etc. A 6500 watt generator can do alot, but you wouldn't be able to run items like a central air conditioner as the inrush current on those are too high for a generator of this size. You'd need a 14kW + to start run those.
You can stay pretty comfortable with a 6500 watt machine, and with the Honda you can be assured of a quality generator that runs very quietly. by Jim, Product Expert

Reviews Matter
After reading the reviews here on Electric Generators Direct, and being in the market for an inverter generator, I have to say the generator is everything others say it is plus! The service from Electric Generators Direct is noteworthy with kudos to the team and the shipper. The $50 gate fee was well worth the extra cost and the driver was friendly and helpful. Already looking into accessories.

Where Credit Due
Honda generators are not cheap. I was flogging myself, almost literally, for buying one for the winter power outages that we have to cope with here in the Mid-Atlantic. To my greatest surprise, after a heavy storm we were left without electricity for six days in the middle of summer, not winter.
The EU6500IS came in handy and served quite well almost uninterruptedly for a week. I bought the IS model to use the generated electricity with computers and TVs, since the power itself is clean enough, and doesn't harm the equipment. Since Verizon FIOS worked during the outage, I was even able to enjoy Internet connection as well.
The temperature was well above 90°F, and when the outage was over I decided to buy the brand cover for the generator. Silly as it sounds, I gave a well-deserved present to the generator just to be covered.
Also, i bought a metal 5 gallon gas can replacing a cheap plastic one, with the same mindset.
The transaction was great, the execution, shipping etc. were flawless. I warmly recommend the company. Thank you, guys...
EGD RESPONDS: You are most welcome!

Good To Go
I think I'm really going to like my transfer switch. From observation it seems to be a sturdy, well made, quality product.
I had it professionally installed the other day and the test run went perfectly. I'll now have heat, refrigeration, lights, entertainment and be able to cook meals during a power outage.
I haven't put it to the ultimate test of "a real power outage" as of yet. Actually, I hope I never have to, but knowing I'm good to go sure gives me peace of mind.

Eu6500is Generator
I replaced a Honda 3500 watt generator with the unit above. I cannot believe how easy it is to use and how much more quiet it is. Great unit !

The Best Thing That Happened To Me After The Storm
I was forced to buy this because it was the last generator in the store. It was the most expensive so everyone was a little scared to step up and buy it. After the sticker shock and using it for three days I would say it was the best thing that happened to me after the storm.
It runs great, is much quieter than my neighbors that ran wide open all the time. With two big screen TV's, the stereo's and satellite dishes, all the lights on, ceiling fans running, two refrigerators, two desk top computers, operating garage door openers and a microwave cycling on and off we lived a normal life on this generator. At night when everything was off I ran the hot water heater and had hot showers in the morning. I could not wash clothes or use the stove but I could wait a few days and do with out those two.
It is too small to operate our 4.5 ton heat pump but it was nice weather and we did not need it back in April yet. After comparing notes on generators with others one guy had his TV and computer fried with bad power off the generator. After hearing that it made me glad I did not ruin my TV's and computers since they were way more in cost than the generator. Overall it is great and now I don't dread loosing power like I used to.

Great Experience!
Ordered the 6500is on a Thursday, and received it on Tuesday, after a 1,000 mile trip from Elec Generators to our home. Everyone was great when I ordered it and service excellent. Highly recommended! + + +

Fantastic
I have a home automation system and my previous generator caused many problems due to the noise transmitted in the power. You could hear the engine hum in the ceiling fans is really the only way to describe it. Hooked up the eu6500 and the power was as if it was coming from the utility company. Super quite and runs the 1.5 ton 16 seer central ac unit in our master suite. I will likely have some new best friends at the deer camp this year too. The product is pricey but worth every penny in my opinion.

Great Backup Generator
We bought ours from our local Honda dealer as we had to have the carb re-jetted for our altitude. It's hooked up to a 20 circuit transfer panel and runs most of the house.
You do have to turn off eco-throtle to run the septic pump, but that's a once a day activity. It is VERY quiet and runs forever on one tank of gas. Always starts on the first try. I especially like the hour/watt meter.
It's also fairly compact compared to other generators this size. We tried a cheap model first and it failed to start on the second use, so it went back to the big box store.

Awesome Generator
We purchased this generator to power our horse trailer with living quarters. It is super quiet and it has great fuel economy.
If we had to purchase another one, this is definitely the one to buy. We Love It!!!!!!!!!!!!
