Q: Jim When you have the EU 2000I and the companion .... Do you connect the Parallel cables up first ... Then Start both units... Then connect the 30 amp... RV 120 cable.... Sounds right to you?.. Any other way in my opinion is dangerous and not right... What do you say?? by Frank from New Mexico on May 16, 2012
A: 1. Connect the parallel operation cable between the EU2000i Companion to either an EU2000i or another EU2000i Companion generator following the instructions supplied with the cable kit.
2. Start the engines and make sure the output indicator (green) on each generator comes on.
3. Plug an appliance into the 30A twist lock receptacle.
4. Turn on the appliance.
**If the generators are overloaded, or if there is a short circuit in a connected appliance, the overload indicator (red) will go ON. The overload indicator (red) will stay ON, and after about four seconds, current to the connected appliance(s) will shut off, and the output indicator (green) will go OFF. Stop both engines and investigate the problem.
Determine if the cause is a short circuit in a connected appliance or an overload. Correct the problem and restart the generator.
Follow the instructions included with the parallel operation cable kit. Before connecting an appliance or power cord to the generator:
Make sure that it is in good working order. A faulty appliance or power cord can create a potential for electrical shock.
If an appliance begins to operate abnormally, becomes sluggish, or stops suddenly, turn it off immediately. Disconnect the appliance, and determine whether the problem is the appliance or the rated load capacity of the generator has been exceeded.
Make sure that the combined electrical rating of the tools or appliances do not exceed that of the generator. Never exceed the maximum power rating of the generator. Power levels between rated and maximum may be used for no more than 30 minutes.
Never connect different generator models.
For parallel operation, use only a Honda approved parallel operation cable kit (optional equipment) when connecting one EU2000i Companion to either an EU2000i or another EU2000i Companion generator.
Never connect different generator models.
For parallel operation, use only a Honda approved parallel operation cable kit (optional equipment, see page ) when connecting one EU2000i Companion to either an EU2000i or another EU2000i Companion generator.
Never connect or remove the parallel operation cable when the generator is running.
For single generator operation, the parallel operation cable must be removed.
***Substantial overloading that continuously lights the overload indicator (red) may damage the generator. Marginal overloading that temporarily lights the overload indicator (red) may shorten the service life of the generator.
Will the EU2000i run a 13,500 btu ac unit on a camper?
How much is this generator buying direct? by Mark from Montana on April 26, 2012
A: A 2000 watt generator is not large enough to support the starting amperage load on a 13.5 BTU AC unit. A typical 13.5 BTU AC unit requires an estimated 2800 watts at start-up but should be verified by getting the starting amperage and using the following formula to calculate the starting wattage....
Starting Amps x Volts = Watts

Q: Looking at the Honda EU2000i & the EU2000i Companion. Would the companion have more amperage with the 30amp twist lock receptacle? by Mike Sells from Minnesota on March 02, 2011
A: The generators have the same wattage/amperage output and the best use for the Companion would be tied to one of the EU2000i units. This gives you the ability to have more power through the 30A outlet on the Companion when connected in parallel. by Jim, Product Expert

Great Generator!!
Have only used this 2 times since we got it a month ago. Works great and is super quiet. We use this to run our 26 foot cabin cruiser boat and or the AC. It will run one of the other and typically we use just for AC only and run the other stuff off the boat and inverters. We strap it down on the back swim platform and you don't hear a thing in the cabin!! Nice Generator and really happy with purchase..
