Q: How many watts do I need for a large chest freezer and two refrigerators? by Dave Frazee from Maryland on July 08, 2012
A: Dave, it really depends upon the wattage usage of each appliance. Naturally, older appliances draw more electricity. It will definitely run them independently.
Upon initial inspection, you picked a good generator, which should do the trick.
Q: Is there anything I need to know about these generators since they have a longer filler neck? by Karen from Illinois on March 15, 2011
A: This generator has a longer filler neck and filler cap/dipstick for checking the engine oil.
This generator must not be filled with oil until the oil runs out of the filler neck. This will cause the engine to be overfilled with oil.
You must use the gauge in the oil filler cap/dipstick to verify the correct amount of oil in the engine. The engine is full of oil when the oil is up to the top of the cross-hatched area of the filler cap/dipstick. As always, do not screw in the filler cap/dipstick when checking the oil level.
Excellent Service- Everything Happened Like Clockwork
After reviewing several sites I found that the reviews for most stores were either half good or half bad except for Electric Generators Direct, they consistently got very good reviews. So I decided to purchase a Honda generator from them even though the item was back-ordered; but it was only back-ordered for a few days.
After a few day's time I received an email that the EM6500 had shipped and that I would receive it in a few more days, which I did. The freight truck arrived with the generator in perfect condition. I had purchased the lift-gate option and it came in handy as I had no one to help me lift it off the truck.
After taking an hour to install the wheel kit and handle and do the initial prep work to start the generator, it started right up. My experience could not have gone any better.
Everything was just as promised. I would definitely buy here again.

You Get What You Pay For
The Honda EM6500 represents a great investment in a portable generator. I bought the generator to power my well, sump pump and other critical items during the frequent power outages we have in Maryland thanks to BGE's inability to provide reliable power.
Electric Generators Direct shipped my generator within 48 hours of ordering and it arrived in perfect condition.
They also saved me over $500 of the lowest local retailer.

Worth The Price
The Honda generator wheel & handle kit was very easy to assemble and the owner's manual is easy to follow for generator operation. After set-up, the generator started right up. I tested it out with my newly installed Q310A Reliance Controls Transfer Switch. The generator works flawlessly. Now I'm ready for what Mother Nature can throw at me.
The Reliance Controls Transfer Switch instructions were very easy to follow and the switch was easy to install.

Portable Backup Power
When I ordered this generator it was on back order due to the recent Tropical storm Irene. I had an estimated ship date of Nov. 15th but, to my surprise the generator was shipped a week early. I was provided with the trucking company and pro# for tracking my shipment. The generator arrived as scheduled and with some simple assembly of the wheel kit, handle, and battery connection all that was left to do was to add the oil and gas. The generator started right up with a turn of the key. I am quite satisfied with the quality of the unit as well as the entire purchase procedure thru this company. I would not hesitate in buying from this company again in the future. I told my friend about this company and he also placed an order for a new generator.

Honda Em 6500
It came off the back of the truck, quick delivery. I put oil and gas in, started right up on second pull. Plugged my compressor in just to see how it worked. Everything seems to be fine so far. During hurricane Irene power went off, I had to bale my sump pump pit out for 12 hours so my basement wouldn't flood . Hopefully I'LL be ready next time. Thanks again.

Unfinished Welds
Oh the generator is beautiful. It does have some unfinished welds on it pointing to the lack of QC standards at Honda which makes me wonder what else they might be accepting. But hopefully I'll never actually find out how reliable it actually is.

Very Good Unit
I received this product from a local distributor the other day. It came to me with oil filled and fully assembled ready to go. I have a Gen Tran switch installed in my garage and was intent on testing the unit when my wife called down and asked my I turned off the power.
Low and behold we had the perfect time for a power failure. (If there is such a thing.) I wheeled the generator to the designated spot and plugged the unit in. It's an electric start gen set and it fired up without hesitation. I put the unit through it's paces. Running just about everything I needed to in the house. The electric stove, the gas forced air heating system, reefer etc.
The unit worked without a flaw. Easy to start and run. The outage only lasted about 1 hour but during that time the generator worked just fine. It's a pretty quiet machine considering it's not an inverter type. I really like the fact that by running the generator it's charges it's own battery. This is a very nice feature that other gen sets don't offer.
I paid more for this unit than comparable others on the market but I think the Honda will outlast others and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
