| Electric Generators Direct Recommendation |
| By Electric Generators Direct |
In most places, you can use Guardian’s best selling 100-amp distributed load center.
However, several local jurisdictions – especially in Florida – are requiring that the amperage of your automatic transfer switch matches the amperage of your incoming utility power.
For example, if you have 200-amp incoming service, you are required by code to get a 200-amp automatic transfer switch.
If you’re going to buy the transfer switch separately, we strongly recommend the PowerManager 200-Amp Automatic Transfer Switch for three reasons:
1. 16-Circuit Load Center
Just like Guardian’s 100-amp automatic transfer switch, you can select 16 priority circuits to protect during an outage.
2. Load Shedding
During a power outage, however, the PowerManager energizes the 16-circuits – plus it energizes your main electrical panel – eliminating the need for a sub-panel.
You can basically run your whole house as long as you don’t overload the system.
If you try to run too many appliances simultaneously, the PowerManager’s unique load shedding capability locks out the non-essential circuits in your main load center, creating a mini-outage of non-important items. Once the overload diminishes, the circuits automatically re-energize.
3. Service Entrance
Lastly, the PowerManager is installed between your meter and main distribution panel. It’s much easier for your electrician to install, saving you money as well.
Again, if you’re buying an automatic transfer switch separately, this is something that shouldn’t be passed up. |
