Q: how many individual wires are there in the 30ft. lead on the transfer switch and what are the wire gauges for each?

A: 9 total wires....

5 Control wires - 14 Gauge

2 - 120V & 1 Neutral - 6 Gauge

1 Ground Wire - 8 Gauge

You can only extend the length an additional 15 ft per Generac and if you need to go farther the entire length needs to be changes since it will no longer be the correct gauge based on the distance beyond 50 total ft.

Q: Jim,
I'm replacing my old 200 amp dist. panel. When I have the sheet rock torn off, I would like to install a 100 amp 16 circuit auto. transfer switch for a 20K stand-by gen. to be installed at a later date. Would the Generac model RTS16EZA1 be a good choice? What do you think?

A: Unfortunately these switches are not designed for flush mounting and Generac does not offer a flush mount kit for them. You would also have to purchase a Generac generator as everything on the market is now proprietary.

Since you are looking to replace your entire 200A panel I would recommend selecting the following switch/load center combo instead. This is a great setup and you don't need a separate generator switch as it is built into the load center.
