Digital Load Management Module •For use only with RTSX/RTSD 100-400 AMP Nexus Smart Switches •NOT compatible with older NON-NEXUS transfer switches
Loads Can Be Intelligently Managed •Enables the use of a smaller, more efficient generator system •Drops out larger, non-essential loads •When the generator is capable, loads are switched back on
Connect Up To Four DLM Modules Per Nexus Smart Switch •Enjoy more power use & flexibility from a smaller generator •Each module is rated to handle up to one 50 Amp device
Install Next To Load Center •Can also be wired in at the individual load device if need be
Q: I have the 10 kw guardian with 12-circuit EZ-Switch. Only "large" load is hot water heater (4500watts). Need DLM for this? by Corby Salek from New Jersey on March 12, 2012
A: The DLM is designed for use with the Nexus Smart Switch only. Your electrician would tie the heater circuit to one of the 240V breakers on the EZ-Switch as long as the amperage matches. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim,
My husband is looking to install a generac 20kw air cooled generator, along with a Nexus Smart Switch. My question is this, does he need to install a DLM with this transfer switch? My loads are as follows: electric range (only plan on using one of the four elements if power is lost), a small heat pump, hot water heater, well pump, a few lights and tv or laptop. What do you recommend? Also, is it necessary to install a battery warmer? In the winter we do drop below 32 deg for a long time. Thanks in advance. by Sue from Pennsylvania on September 27, 2011
A: The DLM modules are required to allow the transfer switch to control the on/off of other items that do not have a contactor built in like a standard central air conditioner which is controlled by a thermostat.
Your range, heater, well, and heat pump system will require the DLM modules if you want to load shed the items at start-up and have the generator decide if they can actually come on or not. All electric homes and heat pump systems require a substantial amount of electricity when first starting which is what the generator must be able to handle.
It is always best to have a certified electrician/installer come out to do your load calculations to determine the proper size generator needed for your specific application as they are all different. (A 20kW may not be large enough)
I was also surprised that the DLM are always activated when you have normal utility power to your home. I have 4 DLM mounted on a plywood wall. I don't have the swarm of bee's sound coming from any of the DLM except when I touch one of then I can feel a vibration which could end up turning into a small bee hive. There is a engineering flaw with Generic DLM. The relays should not be on during normal power operation. I would like to know which company DLM only activate when there is a power outage, maybe Gererac could look into their design and have a fix for all the Gernerac customer who have a higher electric bill because the DLM are on 24/7 and want to keep the bees away.

This thing is amazing. Looks great, works great. No reason to buy anything else.

Say What?
I ordered four DLM modules for my new system. I was surprised to learn the that they are normally activated and do their thing (shed the load) when deactivated. That means they draw power 24-7 and hum like a nest of bees 24-7. The other contactors I've used operate only when needed. Don't mount these things indoors on a sheetrock wall if you want to keep your sanity.

Generac 5875, Rtsd200a3 & Dlm Modules
Before you order up your transfer switch and generator, I would suggest doing load calculations before hand.
I am running all electric heat (3 dbl pole breakers), Well, Hot Water Tank, Range and Dryer for 240V loads. I got the transfer switch RTSD200A3 with my 20KW 5875.
It comes with (2) built in load sheds but they were designed for small load. It ended up I had to purchase (4) DLM modules to shed enough load to pass state electrical inspection.
It is a nice set up and seems to work on tests. I have not lost power yet but am confident I will have no troubles.
Only problem I had was with shipping. A slight inconvenience, but Electric Generators Direct took care of me.
Great Prices too.

If you are looking for the manual for the 5937 DLM go to http:www.generac.com/Service/ManualSearch and search on 0059370.
(The Generac web interface seems to make it as difficult as possible to get their manuals.)
EGD RESPONDS: Electric Generators Direct makes it as easy as possible! Just go to our web page for the DLM Module, click on the Specs tab, and look on the right hand side.
The Owner's Manual is right there as a PDF file, in the Download Documents box.

Model 5875 With 2 Nexus Smart Witches
I replaced a Guardian model 04390-1 that has served me well for the last 9 years. I just wanted to upgrade so I could get my a/c units on the backup system.
My location had 3, 200 amp panels with 2 in the basement and 1 in the garage as a sub panel where the original generator was connected. I had to remove the 200 amp disconnect for garage ( panel "C" ) and use 1 of the new Smart switches to replace it, which I mounted outside by the meter.
The other smart switch I put in the basement (panel "B" ). I moved the breakers from panel "B" to panel "A". since "A" is not on the backup and has the circuits I didn't need when generator was on line.
I manually tested the 5875 under load with both a/c units and a electric hot water heater which is DLM. Everything worked perfect under the test, now I'm just waiting for a power outage to verify all is working correctly.
EGD RESPONDS: We need to remind folks that some areas & insurance companies require any changes to your electrical panel be certified by a registered electrician. Please check your local building codes & with your insurance agent.
