Q: Can you tell me how many inches of water pressure we need for the 183cubic feet per hour. Aslo, what diameter pipe would be required for a 30 foot run? by Paul Reale, P.E. from Georgia on March 25, 2012
A: 5 to 7 inches of water column for natural gas and per the manufacturers recommendations on a 30 ft run with a 17kW generator you would need to use a 1 inch pipe which has a maximum distance of 40 ft.
If you need to go any farther then you must step-up to a 1-1/4 inch pipe which has a maximum distance of 190 ft.
Q: Jim I have a 100 amp Pre-Nexus service rated transfer switch. Can I use this with a nexus generator? Ive heard there is some special wiring for the battery charger to work by Mike Noonan from Michigan on April 18, 2011
A: There is a special kit that needs to be added to the switch to accept the 120V connection which provides the power to the internal generator controller for the charger. These kits are available from your local Generac dealer - Part Number: OH93030SRV.
Q: We have a geo thermal system in our home. Obviously, we do not have a compressor for our air conditioning. How does this affect the size of the generator we will need? by Duane Maxey from Illinois on March 23, 2011
A: A Geo-Thermal system has several pumps that operate within it and these pumps can require a large amount of amperage at start up and can require a large generator. It is recommended to have a certified electrician assist you will properly sizing your generator due to the Geo-Thermal system you have. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can this generator be anchored to the slab? If so, can you provide an anchor bolt layout by Gregg Deemer from Texas on January 21, 2011
A: Generac's model 5885, as with all of their standby generators, are anchored to the pallet at all 4 corners with special anchors which can be used to anchor the unit directly to your concrete base using concrete bolts. by Jim, Product Expert

Perfect!
Right after we bought this place and moved in (2 yrs ago), a winter storm killed the power for 18 hrs. Fortunately (so to speak), it was so cold, we moved all the frig food out on the screened porch and saved the perishables.
The next day, I had one of these beauties delivered and installed - with the auto transfer switch. We had a Generac at our farm.
While it wasn't the hoss this one is, it did the job at the time.
Since installing, Ma Nature has killed the power several times. After 10 sec, the Generac fires up (on propane) and we run any and everything for as long as necessary: HVAC, TV, frig, freezer, lights, computer, garage door openers, well, swimming pool pump - you name it. When the power is back up, it makes the switch over all by itself. It even runs its own 10 min. weekly test automatically.
No pain. No strain. No running out to the barn to throw switches! No worries. Heck - I could probably sell some watts to the neighbors! The Generac, delivery, installation and labor: under $5K. Best $ I ever spent.
