| Electric Generators Direct Recommendation |
| By Electric Generators Direct |
Standby generators come in two basic flavors: air-cooled and liquid-cooled.
What's the difference? Air-cooled generators are, as named, cooled by airflow passing over the engine block. These models are ideally suited for most residential applications as they take up less space, are lower in cost & are considerably lower maintenance.
Liquid-cooled generators feature car-like engines. They use anti-freeze to keep the engines cool. These generators are typically designed for commercial use and are much more expensive.
This is the biggest air-cooled generator on the market. It generates 20 kilowatts of electricity -- enough to run a 5-ton air conditioner and the majority of your house. It's also significantly less than the liquid-cooled 25 kilowatt version.
Plus, it includes a 200-amp service entrance rated automatic transfer switch. With the included ATS, the whole homes power panel is energized (load dependent) and is installed between your electric meter and buildings load center.
Because of the simplicity of installation and the value present in this package - we highly recommend this model.

| Fast delivery and excellent directions |
| By Bill Sonderman (Fredericktown, MO) |
Everything you told me was correct.
The sales people were very knowledgeable and courteous. Your prices were the BEST that I found, and your delivery was very fast.
It was very easy to install. Excellent directions (STEP BY STEP). I had some help, so others may want to hire a licensed electrian. |

| Very Happy Customer |
| By Scott H. (North Bend, WA) |
I researched generators for several months and made a decision to purchase a 20K Generac Generator.
I wanted a 200 Amp switch so the model 5744 met all my requirements. I also purchased the wireless monitoring system so I could control the generator from inside my home.
I visited several websites and determined Electric Generators Direct.com had the most information, and the customer service department helped me with all my questions.
I placed my order on-line and my generator with all the accessories showed up on time and in perfect shape. So far, so good- I was very excited to get my generator up and ready to provide me power on the next outage.
I started to look for a qualified electrician and plumber to install my new toy. I got several quotes and they varied from $2K up to $10K to install and that was just electrical, I still need the gas to be plumbed.
I started to worry I did not anticipate the cost of installation and this was a big mistake. Make sure you get several quotes for electrical and gas plumbing before you purchase your generator and don’t go with the first bid. I got 6 bids and finally found a local electrician and plumber that gave me an honest quote. The final installation cost for electric and plumbing came to about $2400.00 dollars.
I finally got my generator installed, tested and ready for action. I love the remote monitoring and it works great- I have the display sitting next to my bed for easy access.
We finally got to use our generator last week and it worked perfect: the power went off, the generator turned on for about four hours, and when the power came on it shut off. It worked great!
We were the only house with power. Thank You Electric Generators Direct.com! |

| Battery Charger should be pre-installed |
| By Harry Verlander (Covington, LA) |
I love this unit in all respects except one- the battery charger is not pre-installed.
This is silly and ridiculous for such a well built system to need an add-on accessory to work properly.
It would not stop me from buying this unit again or recommending it but the battery charger should be a built in, pre-installed item and not come loose in a plastic bag. |

| Works great- What a deal! |
| By R. L. (Metairie, LA) |
I bought this generator in February 2009. This summer the power has gone out twice, once for over 5 hours.
Both times it did what it was supposed to. It automatically transferred and ran the whole house (all three central AC units.) No hurricanes yet, but I'm glad to know it works as advertised.
I am very happy with my purchase.
BTW, the local quote here in South Louisiana that I received for the EXACT SAME generator installed was $18,680. My savings from purchasing the generator from Electric Generators Direct.com and finding my own installers were over $12,000. I'll type that again- $12,000. |

| How Automatic Transfer Switches Work |
| By Jon Hoch, Founder (Bolingbrook, IL) |
Automatic transfer switches are similar to the thermostat in your house.
Instead of monitoring temperature, an automatic transfer switch monitors utility power.
When the power goes out, the automatic transfer switch tells the generator to start.
This animation does a great job illustrating how it works. For more information, check out our "Standby Generator Buyer's Guide." |
