Generac Guardian Series™ 5502 - 10kW Essential Circuit Standby Generator System

Last month with the record snow melt and heavy rain storms, several of the neighbors were very concerned about their basements flooding when power was out for 18 hours.

I was lucky to obtain a portable gas generator from a friend which kept two houses from flooding. Experiencing the hassle with keeping the gas tank filled motivated me and my neighbor to consider a natural gas generator.

After researching various brands on the market, we decided on Generac 10KW. We looked at local suppliers to turnkey the purchase and installation but also researched what was available on the Internet.

By taking the latter approach, we saved several thousand dollars by purchasing the generators from Power Equipment Direct (Electric Generators Direct) and having a local electrician and plumber install the generators.

The service provided by PED was excellent. The generators were delivered as expected, and more importantly with no damage.

The transportation company had a power lift gate which enabled us to unload both generators without lifting them.

It was a very positive experience dealing with all involved.

I debated purchasing a standby generator vs. the gasoline powered unit, but the ease of use and features made the decision easier.

I just installed the 10kw Guardian unit with the transfer switch and I couldn't be more pleased. The unit was delivered (free!) in excellent condition. The packaging was even top notch!

The total installation time was 4-5 hours with 2 people (and that included a run to the hardware store for the natural gas lines).

Installation was very easy if you are even slightly mechanically inclined. If you aren't, call an electrician / plumber to help you out. After installation, it fired right up and was running the house in 10 seconds.

You can barely hear the unit running in the house and can't hear it at all when the TV is on or kids are running around.

The unit is solid and well built. They thought of everything! I highly recommend these generators.

If you are thinking about getting the 8k unit, spend the extra $500 to get the 10k. You get a better engine, more circuits, and a better control panel on the generator.

My wife didn't like spending $2,700 on a generator but she won't complain next time we DON'T lose power!!
