Rust Proof
By Jon Hoch, Founder (Bolingbrook, IL)
This is the exact same home standby system as the other Guardian 16 kW system -- with one major exception.
This version comes with an aluminum (instead of steel) enclosure. :)
What makes aluminum so great?
Simple. It doesn't rust. Have you seen any rusted beer cans lately?
If you live near the coast, the salty air can corrode the enclosure in several years. You'll definitely appreciate the aluminum enclosure.
If you live away from the coast, the steel enclosure will work just fine. Save the money and get the cheaper version instead.
Just like the steel version being closed out by Generac Power Systems, this one can power a 5-ton central air conditioner. |

Guardian 16 kW Emergency Power System w/ Aluminum Enclosure Review
By Steve Stoddard
Purchased in Jan '07 and installed in April by local electrical contractor (not a Guardian dealer) with no difficulty. I had them wire 15 circuits and left one as a spare. With everything in the house turned on including 3-ton A/C, air handler, frig and freezer, boiler, deep well pump, it takes on the load like a champ. The only "downer" I found was that my computer APC Smart-UPS backup system complains and remains on battery power when recieving current from the generator.
Overall I'm very pleased. I receive several power outages per year on average and can't wait for the next one.
Here's some data about natural gas pressure that was measured during system checkout: Generator not running = 7.0 inches water column. Generator running with no load = 5.75 inches. Generator running with max load = 5.08 inches.
