As an electrical contractor we have use arc fault circuit breakers on certain loads. This creates a problem with the neutrals. Is there an alternate panel I could use?

Q: I have the Generac Power Transfer System model 6295. What gauge wire should I use for connecting the power outlet box to the transfer box / switch? I will only need to cover about 4 feet. Thanks! Dan
by Dan Sklar from New York on September 22, 2013

A: Thank you for your interest in Electric Generators Direct!

While we are more than capable of discussing a certain product and it's components, we are unable to provide any insight in regards to wiring requirements. This factor will vary based on the national electrical code (NEC) and your local code amendments.

If ever you should be in doubt, we recommend referring to the knowledgeable services of a licensed electrician.

Versatile Good Performance
I purchased this to use with my 7550KW portable generator. Install was very easy for this do it yourselfer- I am a police officer not an electrician- and it was easy to install. Don’t be intimated by the number of wires and appearance.

All wires were long enough and I had two panel boxes to connect to. I pulled one 220 breaker and put in 2 single pole to best meet my house needs. Once running on generator I was able to use the meters to balance the load on both sides.

Generator Manual Transfer Switch Kit
Parts received as advertised. The switch was successfully self installed, but I would highly recommend hiring an electrician. The risk of working inside the main fuse panel is too great for most of us. The job took me a long time because I had to work very slowly and cautiously due to my low expertise in electrical matters. I expect that a trained electrician would not have charged a lot to complete the job, because it would have been simple for him. The labor savings was likely small and not... more

Transfer Switch Model 6378
I really like this switch. It has one touch conversion between regular street current and the generator outlet in our garage. By use of adapted powder breakers, our electrician was able to give us 14 circuits from which to choose during an outage, with two of them 220's. It takes up very little space on our basement wall and also has the load monitors so that as we bring circuits on-line during generator start up, we can easily avoid snapping the tripping on the generator.

Great Transfer Switch
I like being able to run lots of circuits where I have a choice. The only downside is it comes with braided wire which is not ideal for electrical work. I would prefer solid wire.
Pros: Easy To Use, Reliable, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again
