Q: I have the ix2000 model generator and I am trying to power a 6500BTU AC (5.7amps, 607watts) it will not allow the compressor to kick on on Eco speed or full speed. Why not? I understand that you have to multiply the wattage by 3 for AC so that would be 1821watts and its still not working. Why? by Eric Herbaut from Tennessee on May 01, 2012
A: Multiplying the wattage by 3 does not indicate the true starting load as it can be 3 - 5 times higher depending on the size of the compressor motor used.
To properly calculate the starting wattage you would need to find out the locked rotor amps (LRA) on the compressor unit and then use the following formula to calculate the starting watts.
Starting Amps x Volts = Watts
It definitely sounds like the starting amps for the compressor is very high, too much for the generator to handle.
Typically small 2000 watt generators are not used to power AC units. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can it run a side by side fridge freeze?
by John Paolino from New Jersey on August 28, 2011
A: In most cases, yes. However, it depends on your exact fridge.
If you have a really big one or a really old energy inefficient fridge, it might have a little trouble.
This model is primarily designed for camping or tailgating.
If you want a generator for home backup, we recommend starting at 5,000 watt emergency grade.
Q: Is there an LP/Multi-fuel version available by David Dahl from Texas on March 26, 2011
A: Generac only offers a Gasoline version and any conversions to the original engineering will void the manufacturers warranty. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can this generator be used with another similar generator plugged into each other for more power, Or paralleled together? by Eve Clark from Arizona on March 03, 2011
A: The Generac iX2000 does not have the connection ports to parallel to another Generac iX2000 generator. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Will the Generac iX2000 have any problems running a circular saw or table saw or a reciprocating saw that range from 13amp to 15amp. I know not together but one at a time? by Mel Boone from Pennsylvania on February 13, 2011
A: You will have to find out the starting amp load because it will be higher then the running amp load. Then you can calculate the starting watts by using the following formula - Starting Amps x Volts = Watts. Now you will be able to determine the proper size generator for your needs. Note: Rule of thumb is to size the generator to 80% of the running capacity to allow the unit to have the flexibility when large loads kick in. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can the Generac iX2000 be connected with another iX2000 to increase power output? by Mike from Utah on February 09, 2011
A: This particular model is not compatible with the parallel cords. In order to do something like this, you would need a Honda model. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Thanks for answering the noise related question, but since you sell nothing but generators, why don't you do a noise level test? by Erik from Utah on January 25, 2011
A: We are a distributor and not a testing facility so we rely on manufacturers to publish sound output levels. Since there are many methods used to equate sound pressure effects on the human ear (range, weighting scale, tonal quality & at various load levels) some manufactures simply do not line list their ratings for fear of being compared to another manufacturer who tests differently. Generally speaking, inverter generators are the quietest choice a person has in the 1-3kW size range and they all typically range from 58-64dB(A). Conventional, fixed speed portable generators are generally between 68-75dB(A). If you are looking for a quieter generator, you can't go wrong with an inverter style. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can the generac ix2000 be hooked together with another ix2000 to increase to 4000 watts? There other models like Honda and Kipor that can be. by Ken Kercher from Wyoming on January 23, 2011
A: The Generac inverter generators cannot be paralleled together. There is no connection on the unit to do this. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: What is the noise level of the Generac IX2000? Why don't they list this info in the owners manual? by Fletcher Pastore from Virginia on January 23, 2011
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Generac, like many other generator manufacturers, do not publish the decibel ratings for their generators. This unit does come equipped with a Low Tone Muffler and the internal components are enclosed for Quiet Operation but I do not have a decibel number to give you. Currently, there are no industry standards or requirements for generator manufacturers to follow when testing their generators for noise. Due to this, manufacturers can test the noise level under any conditions they choose and, therefore, the results are not very reliable as each company will test under conditions that are favorable to their products. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: DO you have the adapter cable to connect the 12VDC output on generac 2000W portable generators? by Joel Corrente from New Hampshire on January 23, 2011
A: The unit comes with the 12VDC cable to charge batteries. (Alligator clip style) by Jim, Product Expert

Rough Idle
I bought this model last May where we would have it as an emergency power source when electricity went out. From the beginning I noticed that it ran rough. Then it got where it would not start. I sent it to a authorized repair shop and the repair person said he thought he knew what the problem was(the Carb) as some of the models had faulty ones. When I got it back it started and ran like a dream. I am very satisfied other than the company should have fixed this problem before putting it on the market. The unit starts on the second pull and runs really smooth since the repair. I gather that this was a rather common problem for some of these machines so if you are having problems with rough running I would check the carb.

Nice Little Unit, Good Advice from EGD
I've been shopping for a 8kW generator since the freak snow storm in October left us without power for 7 days. I need power for the major appliances and the hot water, but also, I work from home on computer systems. The guys from EGD recommended an inverter generator for my electronics, my computers and my router and TV, rather than a standard portable generator.
This Generac arrived as promised, was a breeze to set up, and started with just a few pulls. The user's guide is crystal clear, no guessing. It ran for over an hour on very little gas- I just wanted to try it out before prepping it for long term storage! It is surprisingly light weight and quiet. Its considerably less money than the Honda and Yamaha inverter generators, and while those brands are widely praised, it was hard to justify the extra expense. This Generac was about half the price. We'll take it camping and tailgating, besides having it handy for the next emergency. Best of all, I can work from my home office without worries that I might damage my router and computer.
I plan to purchase another portable generator for the rest of the house. In the end, I'll be spending pretty close to the same amount of money, getting the same total wattage. I feel buying this 2000W inverter generator and another 6000-7000 watt portable is the best way to go for me, for so many good reasons. The support guys from EGD helped me make a very good choice, I think. I will buy my next generator from EGD as well.

High Idle & Excessive Vibration
As soon as I started my brand new unit, I noticed that it was not running smooth. I have taken it to an authorized Generac repair shop so that they can check it out and fix the high idle and excessive vibration. The shop is backed up for 4 weeks. The jury is still out on my unit. It has no hours on it yet.

Cheap But Effective
It's a little noisier than I expected. I'm sure the Honda & Yamaha are quieter but cost almost 3X as much. It ran my furnace and a couple lights easily. I think it might be able to run both furnaces as long as the motors don't start-up simultaneously (they have ECM motors).
I did the initial 5 hour run-in testing it on my furnaces, but mainly on a 1500 Watt electric radiator and about 300 Watts worth of lights. It seemed like it was about to stall whenever it loaded down with an increased load, but it didn't. .
It's pretty light. Started up just fine. Beware the priming pump. I had an incident where I had primed it, ran it for 5 minutes after I changed the oil, then shut off the fuel at the cap. For some reason it siphoned out about a 1/2 cup of gas and it spilled all over the garage floor. SO be sure to let it sit outside for a couple hours after it's done running gas cap vent still open.
Glad I bought it. It gives me piece of mind that we can stay in our house when the power goes out for extended periods in winter. It should be large enough to run the refrigerator or a small window AC unit... one at a time of course.

So Far Very Happy
I purchased this unit knowing some about Generac using larger units in my field of work. Needed something small to use in my race trailer for model boat racing. Primary function is to operate a LiPo battery charger and light up the trailer. Charge rate of 5 amps, 2 batteries at a time. The unit stays on Eco and never kicks up while charging. The unit is quiet and will run all day on a tank full of gas. So far it has met my needs above and beyond.

Liked The Buying Experience So Much I'm Going To Buy A 17kW
The 2 KW Generac inverter worked great and basically saved our finished basement from flooding during Hurricane Irene when the power went off for a day. We were planning to purchase a propane powered standby generator anyway, and now because of the great experience we had with Electric Generators Direct, we're buying it here.

I got generator before hurricane with next day service that paid off because I was just worried about keeping my sumps running, lost power for close to 24 hrs. I could not get a generator anywhere at the time near me, wife found site, got one for us, her brother, and mentioned site as many neighbors got them from here. The generator is a little noisier than I thought it would be, seemed like reasonable power for what we needed it for (I've used up to 6000 watt at work). Other than that happy with purchase as I should have had one anyway as we lose power pretty periodically. Directions and set up were very easy.

We Survived Hurricane Irene with the Generac
August 25th, 2011...Holmdel, NJ. We were told to prepare for hurricane Irene and lots of rain. Having a finished basement and a sump pump, we called around to all local stores, there were no generators anywhere. I googled, "generator delivered over night" and came to your site, Electric Generators Direct. I called the toll free number and was promised a Generator for delivery the next day, Saturday.
I was nervous it might not arrive, but at about 11am, there was our new generator. It literally saved our finished basement, which was not insured. We used the generator for 82 hours, refilling it with gas about 3 times per day. It operated our sump pump and refrigerator. It was easy to use and worked very well.
We were very grateful and would recommend this generator!

Perfect Selection
It was the perfect choice for what I needed. It easily powered up a few refrigerators, TV, DVD for my kids during a recent hurricane. It's portable, easy to start and the instructions are close to idiot proof. I'd recommend this for the general users who needs a nice, light, portable generator that is reliable.

In A Hurry....
I ordered this the day before Irene hit...came the next day, as promised (Thanks, EGD!!)...Had it all set up and ready, and in every test it worked as advertised. But I luckily never needed it. I did lend it out to a few people/families less fortunate, and they reported how well it worked and how it was simple and easy to use.

Used properly very satisfied
Not a Honda and doesnt cost as much either. I have tried to overload the generator with home loads. Can be done on purpose.
I have ALL my 120v loads on the generator. Frig and small freezer. Even tv and microwave. Runs fine. The eco setting needs some work. I feel this is a design issue and the way the gen makes power.
Using the proper gas. 10% ethanol is a problem. Run good gas or lots of gas treatment. The starting issues will go away.

The Generac iX2000 and Generators Direct saved us from Irene!!!
My wife and I can't say enough good things about the product and the company.
First, about Electric Generators Direct and their service:
It was Friday Aug. 26th late in the morning. Hurricane Irene was bearing down on the Jersey shore, and though we are 12 miles inland, we have a high water table and the sump pump is the only thing that comes between our awesome finished basement and a $10,000 - $15,000 disaster. Though we were already planning to invest in a 10KW standby propane powered unit, we only just moved in a couple of months ago and hadn't yet gotten estimates. So we were without any emergency generating equipment at all.
After dozens of calls and internet searches, I quickly learned that there was not a single portable generator within 150 miles. Then I found Electric Generators Direct and saw that they had this unit in stock and available for next day air Saturday delivery. When I called, the representative was great, and I could tell she was genuinely concerned with our situation and wanted to help. In a few minutes, the order was placed and as the day progressed, I received e-mails confirming the order and shipment, including a tracking number. The unit arrived at Newark airport in the early morning and it was at our door by early afternoon.
Now, about the unit:
Instructions were simple (and not full of useless information), setup was a cinch - really just a matter of pouring the engine oil into the crankcase, filling the fuel tank, and grounding it (very important BTW!). The unit started with a few pulls, ran rough for a bit as it broke in, then settled down. Once it was running smooth, I connected our sump pump via a heavy duty 12 gauge extension cord and let it run for a while to make sure it could handle the load.
I used the FlexPower switch on so that I could save fuel. Once I was satisfied that the unit could handle the sump pump load (13 HP pulling 6.5 Amps continuous and about 250% of that on startup), I shut it down and stowed it in the garage ready for the power outage we were dead certain would come when the heavy winds hit. Sure enough, at 8:30 AM Sunday morning as we were just about to head down for coffee, out went the lights. I pulled the unit outside, started it up and put the sump pump and DC backup sump pump online (8:45 AM). I decided to let the unit run out of gas to see how long it could run on a full tank, and it wasn't until about 2:15 that fuel ran out. I let it cool down for about 30 minutes while I monitored the DC backup sump pump cycling and successfully keeping the water line level in the sump pit (phew!).
Then at 2:45, after refueling, I started the unit and brought the load back online. Atabout 8:00 PM after a nice candlelit dinner, I decided to try adding the load of our 22 cu.ft. fridge to the unit. I did that and checked the overload light but there was no issue, and the fridge chilled down to normal while the sump continued to pump out the continuous flow of watter pouring into the sump pit (I'd estimate a flow rate into that pit of about 2 GPM!).
At 10:45 PM, the unit was still running on the second tank and we wanted to hit the sack, so I took the fridge offline, shut down, refueled and restarted to run the sump pump through the night. When we woke up this morning at about 7:00 AM, the power had been restored and the unit was still running strong maintaining the sump pump load effortlessly.
Folks, this company and this unit saved us from a total loss of our awesome finished basement that we estimate would have cost at least ten grand to put back the way it was. In terms of some of the bad reviews I saw, my suspicion is that the units were not grounded properly (or at all) which could easily result in unstable voltage and other issues.
THANK YOU GENERATORS DIRECT CREW AND GENERAC (AND YOU TOO FEDEX)!!!!

Not Happy
I purchased the 2000 a few weeks ago and just got around to opening it up this past weekend. Honestly feel like it was a questionable purchase. Wouldn't run a 1300 watt microwave or the a.c. unit (12000btu) in my camper. Truly should not have a problem with the micro. Thinking about returning it.

Does Not Perform
Bought this generator after reading reviews that said can power RV ac's. Brought it to a camping trip, it could only charge my cell phone and run the lights. Could not run a 1000 watt microwave, or the ac. Electric generators direct informs me I can not upgrade because I ran the motor. How else can I see if it works?
EGD Responds: Due to Federal Shipping Regulations, once an engine has been gassed and oiled, it can't be shipped. Please refer to your local Generac service center, this generator has a 2 year warranty.

Follow-Up To Previous
I have to follow up to my previous review. The generator failed and I wouldn't recommend it but I do have to say Generac made it right in the end. The lady who manages tech support had my purchase refunded through PED after the unit failed and I had to buy another generator because the power was out. I would consider a Generac product again.

I have only operated this generator for 5 hours (I think that is the suggested break in period). It was able to start a 12 amp freezer, and while running that freezer it was able to start a 15 amp circular saw. That is pretty good for a 2000 watt generator, and this was at 6200 feet above sea level. It started easy, but I have not tried to run it at 9000 ft. It might need a carburetor adjustment at that elevation. The tools included, especially the funnel to add engine oil, were very useful. I need to perform more tests, but so far this generator has been very impressive.

Ground Your Genset For The Best Reliability
I have the Generac iX2000 and have had NO problem with it so far. I did connect the front ground lug to a very good ground before using it both times. Recently on a forum, I found some post about people who found that when not grounded the Generac iX2000 did not perform well, but when grounded it worked well. All I can think of is that there is some stray voltage messing up the voltage regulation if the unit is not well grounded. I do not know for sure if grounding is the key to getting the electrical part of these units to work well, but it can't hurt.
Be sure to keep record of how many hours are on the oil, change it often, and check the oil level every time you add fuel.
Fresh fuel is a real big deal when it comes to reliability. A good test is simply sniff for the smell of gasoline from several feet away from an open gas can. If is does not smell like gasoline, it may no longer be good enough for your small engine. Using an additive such as Sta-Bil, Sta-Bil Marine, RedLine SL-1, or SeaFoam seams to be a real good idea to keep the fuel system clean in small gasoline engines. This is especially true now days with ethanol in gasoline. Ethanol attracts water molecules right out of the air, even on the surface layer of gasoline left over if you run the unit dry. When the water combines with ethanol it becomes acetic-acid, (a mild acid, also known as vinegar), and even though this is a mild acid, over long periods of time it will eat the metal of your carburetor parts and render them un-reliable or totally useless. This is a problem with all makes and models of small engines nowadays. Any one of these fuel additives seam to work to prevent this problem. Different people have there preference as to the one that works best.

Expected it to work out of the box ... it didn't. Engine started just fine but had to take it in for warranty because it didn't generate electricity. Used it twice since repaired. Engine seems a bit inconsistent but works. A little louder than I expected but at half the cost of a Honda works for me!

Not Sure If I Made The Right Choice
I made an online purchase of the Generator iX 2000 a few weeks ago and have run it about 6 times since it arrived. Each time it has run, it has run differently, sometimes very poorly, meaning inconsistent idle, misfires, flooding and shutting down with gas pouring out of the overflow tube from the carburetor.
A call to the technician suggested that the carb float may be stuck. When I ran it again tonight, just trying to get familiar with the unit, it seemed to run fine. But don't let anyone tell you that this machine is quiet. Quiet is a relative term but I doesn't seem to fit the decibel output that I am hearing.
I got it new at a very competitive price and think I will get the problems sorted out, if they haven't cured themselves already.

Generac 5793 Review
We used the generator to power our travel trailer for the first time this weekend. It will run the microwave or the air conditioner, but not at the same time. It rained buckets, but the weather did not seem to affect the exposed generator.
Fuel economy was much better than quoted. It was a little fickle to get started, but not too difficult. One weird issue: after starting the engine ran at a high rpm and no electricity was generated. The overload light would blink on and off, but nothing was plugged in.
After a few minutes I shut the engine off and restarted. It worked fine after that.

Buy a Honda. I purchased this last year from EGD because it was 2200 watts peak and was a decent price. It seemed okay for a while but started to run strangely once and a while and starts very hard.
Well yesterday when the power went out and I wanted to run my sump pump and give the main generator a rest for the night I started it and let it run for a while. Plugged it in and all seemed well. I heard it running strangely and went back out shut it down unplugged it and you could smell that something was burning.
I tried to start it again and it revved up super high and you could see something arcing inside. Shut it down and tried to start again and the pull cord had melted in half.
Bought a Honda today. It started right up and ran the pump all day. Generac is loud, over revs, starts hard and apparently is only good for about 25 hrs of service since that's all it has ever been used. I really kicked myself today because I know better.

Should Have Bought a Honda
I bought the 2000 watt Generac Inverter Generator to charge my RV's batteries when solar fails, occasionally run the microwave oven, and in the event of battery failure to retract the RV's slide-out. The Generator starts easy and is fairly quite - not Honda quite, but not excessively loud.
The XI2000 has two settings economy and full power mode. Economy Mode works as advertised - engine throttles to match load and output is well regulated - runs my 1500 watt microwave. The Full power mode doesn't work so good, voltage regulation is bad, loading with 1500 watts causes an output voltage to drop by half ( to 60 vac ) followed by recovery - my microwave won't run on 60 vac, its micro-controller resets. More importantly, the poor regulation associated with Full Power mode could damage attached equipment, so I won't use full power mode. The bottom line, the generator has worked out OK, but the full power mode is a disappointment.
I took my XI2000 to an approved repair center and I asked the technician to check to insure voltage regulation was according to manufacture specification. Her eyes glazed over, not having a clue how to do a proper assessment. About 2 hours after I dropped the generator off, the service center called an told me to pick up the generator, it was working fine... Basically, they checked the full power mode, by loading it with a small AC, RV refrigerator, and some lights. No regulation check and no recovery time check.
I called another service center, and the person I spoke with seemed knowledgeable - now back from vacation, I'm going to make time to get it checked out properly. I'm guessing the XI2000 doesn't regulate well in Full Power Mode.

STREET OUTREACH
I had been hoping for an inverter generator for some time , to replace the ridiculously noisy standard type generator we already had . The old one was wildly noisy and a BEAST to handle, especially by myself .
My needs for an inverter generator was for an outreach ministry that make effort to assist people in dire need in life . We assist homeless , drug addicts , prostitutes and in general anyone else trying to better their lives . All to often , a standard generator just wasn't practical simply due to all the noise , bulk and weight . Trying to set " THE BEAST up and run it was just more than we could take which prompted us to look for this style generator .
We looked pretty closely all winter long at these units and did thorough comparisons .Yes , we did see the reviews with the choke lever breaking situation and came to realize that was redesigned . Also heard some noise about hard to re-start after shutting it down . Personally , and in my opinion . Most folks don't understand how small engines think when on the restart and true as I assumed , I've found it not a problem in my case . Again , we needed quiet operation .
Most often we go and setup the " WORLD WIDE WITNESS WAGON " as we affectionately call it and run for the most part , a laptop , small powered speakers and several fans to stay cool along with any other need that comes along . Not forgetting to mention we will often offer temp power to someone else in need at the time .
No ! It doesn't say HONDA on the side , nor did we pay an extra 800 smackers for that HONDA decal . In knowing the HONDA might well actually be the better unit , we are on a tight budget with a few donated dollars and what we can earn selling bibles to do our Outreach effort . The Generac ix200 just seemed logical .
I had seen it on several sites offered from a variety of prices . You guys simply appeared more knowledgeable and more fairly priced so we gave you a shot and called . The gentleman on the phone was well knowledgeable and informed on all your products as he helped us do a final decision on the ix2000 . He made no effort to sway us one way or the other towards his opinion . He just gave us the facts and from that we made the final decision .
Great phone salesman . You don't pay him enough I am sure . Got the unit very promptly . Took the ix2000 out of the box and it fired up instantly . While I let it warm up a bit and just get used to being alive , I then grabbed the owners manual and read it for the first time . Well written and a child could understand it . We let the unit run for a couple of hours on it's first start up , shut it down , let it sit a few and it fired right back up .
We took it on the road the next weekend and it functioned flawlessly all day long in the heat . It ran well better than 8 hours on a gallon of gas in eco mode with two high powered fans , the laptop , the speakers , and an off an on again other small item or two throughout the day . FLAWLESS ! QUIET ! AND HARD WORKING UNIT !
We bought the unit with donated money and will back for a second one as soon as funds become available . We also have a prtable 1600 watt PA system we need to power . The unit will power the PA and our other small toys at once if we need it too but we'd like to have the two units running on different ends of our setup so the second as we acquire it will be great .
Thanks tons for the great unit and the excellent service . Looking forward to doing business with you again soon ,
Rev. W. Daniel

I had been hoping for an inverter generator for some time , to replace the ridiculously noisy standard type generator we already had . The old one was wildly noisy and a BEAST to handle, especially by myself .

Great Value
Bought this at a deep discount and could not have been happier. As others said the big "A" site shows some bad reviews but this unit has performed flawlessly for us.
It runs the AC on our camper without a problem, as long as the ECO mode is off.
1/3 the price of the Honda. Highly recommend the savings, so with the money you save, you can buy two.

Great Generator
We purchased two of the Generac 2000 for our RV - with the intention of using a parallel cable to hook them together. I, being the purchaser and first time RV owner, never thought to do some research regarding the use of a parallel cable until after we had them.
They're great generators--lightweight, great price, easy to start and nice to look at.

Great Buy
I bought my ix2000 from a local farm and fleet for use around the job site and as a back up to run my sump pump. I love this generator. I looked around the internet and found a lot of bad reviews on this generator but it works great for me.
In the picture it was running a 500 watt shop light, a 3.5 peak horse power craftsman vacuum, and at times an angle grinder and it didn't even struggle. The generator starts on the first pull every time, even in 35 degree weather.
Some tips i can say are to always run premium gas with seafoam added to the gas, change oil regularly (i think 100 hours between oil changes is way too long), I change mine weekly if i have been using a lot. After all, they hold less than a quart of oil.
Another thing that nobody does is once you get your generator take out the aircleaner and oil it. i used K&N airfilter oil. It even says to do it right in the book. This will save your motor.
I will admit that this generator is a little loud but it still gets a 5 star rating from me.

Good and Affordable!!!
Bought this generator last month for basic recreational use. The the shipping was fast and no damage during delivery. No issues with broken chokes or etc. The directions are clear and easy to understand.
Generac supplies you with initial oil and special dispenser. It started on the first pull. Generator is not loud at all. I have used this next to the Honda model. It is not as quiet as the Honda, but not that far off.
It is a great bang for your buck. (Electric Direct had the best prices).

Good Quiet Generator
The generator starts easily and runs smoothly. The unit is pleasantly quiet. It's a little louder than a honda, but not by much.
Fuel economy is great. The big handle on top makes it very easy to move around. It will produce the full rated 2000 watts.

More Watts And A Lower Cost
Reviews on other sites talked about the choke lever breaking or being broke when the unit arrived. However, now Generac has revised the choke and the unit I received has a good choke leaver.
The slot that the choke leaver goes through is part of the cover that you must remove to service the oil, and or air-filter.
BE CERTAIN TO ALWAYS MOVE CHOKE LEAVER TO THE CENTER POSITION SO IT WILL NOT GET SNAGGED AND OVER STRESSED WHEN YOU PUT THE COVER BACK ON WHEN SERVICING OIL AND OR AIR-CLEANER.
It might be a good idea for Generac to widen the length and width of the slot that the choke lever goes through to insure that it can not get snagged when the cover is put back on. However the air flow for cooling inside the case is carefully worked out, and I would not modify that slot, without permission, as it may void warranty.
Some reviews of inverter gen-sets are negative because they would not start a particular furnace, or AC unit.
Inverter generators do not produce more power than they are rated for, even for a brief amount of time. I have read reviews of other manufacturers inverter gen-sets rated at 3000 watts that would not start a furnace. While others use 2000 watt or smaller units to start furnaces with out any problem. The starting watt draw for furnaces and air-conditioners varies depending on the manufacturer and design. Also if the size of the cord used is too light of a gauge there will be too much voltage drop, and the unit will not start. It seams having enough wattage to start a given furnace or air-conditioner with a given inverter gen-set is a hit or miss thing. Unless you used a meter that measures peak power or current demand during starting, or someone has successfully started that model of furnace or AC unit with that size inverter gen-set you can not be sure a generator will start it until you try it.
I ran my Generac iX2000 inverter gen-set to break it in with the oil provided. Here is what I found. Filling the tank is a little tricky. I looks like there is plenty of room left, and then all of the sudden the next thing you know, it is over filled. There is a very sharp change in the way the tank accepts fuel. So when you have the fuel about 1/4 of an inch above the bottom of the strainer, add fuel very slowly after that. There should be a mark of some kind on the strainer showing when it is full.
After opening fuel valve, and priming 5 times as the directions show, and then opening vent, with eco throttle off, the unit started on the second pull. The rope is not that hard to pull. I slowly remove amount of choke as engine warmed up. The engine is no where near as loud as my Coleman Powermate with 10 HP Tecumseh engine. This engine is quiet enough that you really do not require ear plugs to safely be around it.
I let it warm up for five minutes then ran it at 1,000 watts resistive heater load, and 2000 watts resistive heater load first for 5 minutes on each, and then 10 minutes on each, and then 20 minutes on each, and then 30 minutes on each. The generator puts out 120 volts all the time. There was a dip in voltage down to 90 volts for about one to two seconds with change in load. And the voltage never exceeded 120 volts with reduction in load. In all, this generator does exactly what is it is rated for. It can put out 120 volts AC for any load from 0 to 2000 watts continuous. It ran for 4 hours and 34 minutes. The first three hours were switching the load from 1K to 2K and back. After three hours I let it run with not load until it ran out of gas.
This generator is just under 50 pounds and light enough to move with one hand. It is bigger than some popular more expensive units, but puts out more continuous power. It also uses the fuel a little faster, but has a larger engine, and again does have a higher continuous power rating.
I can live with having to make sure the choke lever is always placed in the center position when not running, so it never is abused when the cover is put back on. The only thing I would like to see would be an external fuel tank that one could use for extended run times. The prime pump could simply be transferred to an external tank, and a hose to a cap would go on the gen-set. The prime pump may have to be pumped a few more times because of larger dead air space, but it would be real nice to have an external tank large enough to run this unit for 24 hours or more. It has low oil protection, so there is no danger of damaging it from low oil during a long run.
Placed on the far end of the yard, with 50 feet of cord, it is quiet enough for the neighbors, and people in the house.
In all, so far, it seams to be a good inverter gen-set for the money.

Gasoline Leaks
Generator started on the second pull. Ran well and was relatively quiet. I did have an issue with the fuel leaking out of the cap. Reading the book, it said I may have over primed it. I kept the fuel level less than one half a tank and so not really sure if its me or the generator. I am going to continue working with the generator.

Sick to my stomach
I paid over $500 dollars for generator that will a run a lamp. I purchased the generator to run one small 110 air conditioner in my truck camper, and it won't even do that.
EGD RESPONDS: We have had other customers use this generator to run their truck camper air conditioners with no problem, so we suggest you give the folks at Generac Tech Support a call at (888) 436-3722.
They will be happy to help you get the best performance from your generator.
The hardest part of running an air conditioner is getting it started. You will want to make sure your Flex Power is set to High for the power you need. Leaving it in the Eco (fuel conserving) setting may not get the job done.

Quality product (so Far)
I have used the new Generac 2000 Inverter Generator twice since I received it.
It is lighter than the others I owned, quieter and so far has done a great job. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a generator with this size output. I am well pleased.
You shipped it promptly and you had a better price than anyone else ( I really looked at prices on many sites...yours was best.)
Thanks a million.

Could not be happier
I researched and researched several generators. I decided on the Generac to replace my old Coleman Powermate, as well as Generators Direct for my purchase.
Upon their super-fast delivery I opened it filled the oil and gas. Choked it and pumped the primer 5 times. Started on the first pull. I ran it for about two hours.
It ran my air conditioner and mini-fridge in my truck camper along with a radio and lights with out issue. Shut it off, started it again last night for only the second time. First pull again, and it started right up.
It is considerably quieter than my Coleman. I can not hear it with the air running. I leave in two weeks for a week and half in the Ontario bush.
I'm confident I made the right choice with both the Generac 2000w and Electric Generators Direct.
