Q: Can the generac ix2000 be hooked together with another ix2000 to increase to 4000 watts? There other models like Honda and Kipor that can be. by Ken Kercher from Wyoming on January 23, 2011
A: The Generac inverter generators cannot be paralleled together. There is no connection on the unit to do this. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: What is the noise level of the Generac IX2000? Why don't they list this info in the owners manual? by Fletcher Pastore from Virginia on January 23, 2011
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Generac, like many other generator manufacturers, do not publish the decibel ratings for their generators. This unit does come equipped with a Low Tone Muffler and the internal components are enclosed for Quiet Operation but I do not have a decibel number to give you. Currently, there are no industry standards or requirements for generator manufacturers to follow when testing their generators for noise. Due to this, manufacturers can test the noise level under any conditions they choose and, therefore, the results are not very reliable as each company will test under conditions that are favorable to their products. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I am looking for a small, very quiet, generator to power my wife's oxygen concentrator so that we can start camping again. Price is important as we do not have a lot of money to spend. The concentrator does not display a lot of information, but it does states that it uses only 3.4 amps. Hope you can help me. by Craig Jackson from Colorado on January 20, 2011
A: On a lot of equipment the amperage listed is the running amperage load and you need to know the starting amperage load to properly calculate your wattage needs. The formula to calculate it is - Starting Amps x Volts = Watts. Starting amps are estimated between 4 -5 times higher then the running amps (always best to test with a voltmeter). by Jim, Product Expert

Piece of Junk
I used it twice with good stabilized gas. The third time it would not start. It was only 3 months old. The generac warranty is useless. They do not stand behind their product.
EGD Responds: This model generator carries a 2-Year Warranty from Generac. Please contact Generac directly @ (888) 436-3722 x5381 for more information regarding service centers in your area.

No Complaints
I bought an Husky Generator from Home Depot in April, and first used it in July. After an hour of running it at a campground the camp Manager came by and asked me to shut it down because other campers were complaining of the noise from it. It was very loud, I had gotten a generator permit from the DNR and was using it during the specified time period: 10a.m.-5p.m., so i was legal to operate it, but because other campers complained and the Camp Host asked I shut the thing down and the next day I returned it to Home Depot for a refund.
My brother had a Generac Generator that he ordered from Power Equipment Direct and he was very happy with it. When he told me where he ordered from and I heard his Generator operate I said I wanted the same one, he gave me this website and the rest is history. I use my new Generator all the time when I'm camping and haven't had any other campers complain about the noise, as it is very quiet. I'm very pleased with my Generator and give it a five star rating.

Update Report
The Generac 1600 was a total P.I.A. for three weeks. We tried everything. It would, eventually, start then run fine until the gas ran out, then it would take another 30 minutes to re-start the thing. Bought high octane gas, added the stabilizer, etc. It got to the point that the only way it would start was to flood the thing and wear myself out pulling on the cord until it finally kicked over.
I was on the verge of loading it up in the truck to take it to the repair shop and decided to give it one more try. The primer pump did not work - it was free floating. I unscrewed the lower half and found an o-ring in there which had come out of it's location. Put it back on, tried again and it popped off again. Hmmm. I had some clipper oil for my horse clippers and ran a few drops of the oil around the o-ring and put everything back in place.
Turned on the gas, four pumps, flipped the choke, one pull and we were off. Since that day, the generator has started on the FIRST pull (with 4-5 pumps to prime) every single time and I've been testing it daily. Yesterday we were at a horse show and it ran all day. When it ran out of gas I expected a delay with re-starting but, filled it up with gas, and it started on the first pull.
I wish I had known about the o-ring from the beginning. Seems that was the answer to all my problems as it was obviously not priming as reqired.
I am now very pleased with the generator, great value for the $$. I can run a big industrial fan, a smaller fan, lights, and my computer all on the economy setting and get 5-6 hours of power. With the economy setting the generator is nice and quiet and does not upset the horses.

Difficult to Start & Re-Start
Got my Generac IX1600 today. I need this for horse shows and events that are often in places where there is no electric available. Only need to run a couple of fans and a laptop for credit cards.
Followed the directions and could not get it started. My neighbor came over and he managed to start it, but then turned it off and left. I spent about an hour trying to restart it (I'm a 60 year old woman). Finally another neighbor came and pumped the primer until gas leaked out the bottom and it started. I ran it for 60 minutes with a large industrial fan going. Worked well.
However, I unplugged the fan and turned the unit off. Now I cannot restart it. What is the secret? Tried calling Generac but the woman merely read the manual to me and then told me to take it to a service dealer. I need this thing working on Sunday.

Runs Good
Just purchased this generator and only ran it three times so far with great success. I hope it continues to run as good as this. We purchased it for camping, and haven't had the opportunity to camp yet. I will say it ran all my power tools in the garage, and my shop vacuum.
It is light, looks great, and if it continues to run as good as it does now, I would advise anybody to purchase one. Buy the way, it started on the third pull. Now it starts on one or two pulls. It pulls very easy.

Very Impressed
Product actually delivered 1 day early. 2x the wattage of my last old generator and just over half the noise.
It started on 4th pull the 1st day and the next day on the 1st pull. Ran 5 hours and changed oil, no problems.
Light weight for a 1600 watt, quiet and easy start. Well worth the money.

Generac iX1600 Inverter
After some research on the internet I purchased a Honeywell 1000 portable. After bringing it home and fueling it and oil I started it with ease. After a while it ran rough even with 91 octane gas. Unhappy with performance, I took it back to local store.
Back to the computer I went and found this web site called electric generators direct. As I talked with them and was able to make another choice. For twenty dollars more I was able to upgrade to a 1600 portable.I ordered it and it was here in two days.
As before I oiled and gassed it up. It started on the second pull and there after the first pull. It runs quiet and smooth.Just by looking at it you can tell it is a better made generator.
So far so good.............. Thanks guys for the help and great service.

Quiet, Reliable, Streamlined, & Fairly Light
The Generac iX1600 is a great portable inverter generator. It's a quiet, reliable, streamlined, and fairly light.
The only change I would make is to decrease the diameter of the carry handle, to get a better grip.
I'm a big guy, and my hand just makes it around the handle.
Plus it's half the cost of a Honda.

Watch out
I purchased this generator after reading positive reviews online at several different locations. However, that is not what I discovered.
I unpacked the generator, oiled, and fueled it as per enclosed instructions. Then after the 16th pull it finally started. Seemed to run like a champ for about half an hour until I tried the flex power switch. That is when things went to hell. The unit stopped running in about 20 seconds after which time I tried in vain to get it re-started.
I changed out the fuel, changed the oil, added premium fuel but nothing. Finally, I left it for an hour and a half then came back with some starter fluid. Got it running again. This time I let it run for an hour until trying the Flexpower switch at which time it promptly died and would not start again.
I have a large Generac generator that consistantly starts on the 1st or 2nd pull every time so I am not sure if it is the electronics or short cuts to make the price so inexpensive.
EGD RESPONDS: Generac has a generous 2 year Factory Warranty on that unit. Their Dealer Locator shows 2 Authorized Service centers in your area (emailed under separate cover).

Company was great to deal with; love the unit
After searching the Internet sales and deciding against purchasing an overpriced Honda, the Generac fits very well into my plans. It is primary usage is to back up a sump pump and refrigerator. That it does well.
The unit runs very quiet and does not vibrate all over like its ETQ predecessor did. The only thing I can complain about is the oil cap, it is difficult to re-install once removed and if you drop it inside the unit, it is a bear to retrieve.
Other wise, the company was great to deal with and I love the unit.
