Q: Hey Jim, I sent you a question a while back, appreciate your prompt reply. Am interested in the Generac GP 7000E, 7000 watt elect. start generator. Your price is $975.10, shipped to me, tax free, lift gate ready. If I come up to your location in Bowlingbrook ( is that correct? ) and take it home myself in my truck, can I get it for less? Just wondering. We are coming up to Joliet at the end of May to see some friends, not too far from you. Thanks. Doug Taylor. by Doug Taylor from Illinois on May 05, 2011
A: Hi Doug, We can offer a discount if you were to pick up the machine here in Bolingbrook, however, in the case of a pick up the transaction occurs in Illinois. The IL State sales tax would apply which would pretty much negate the discount. Trade shipping discount for the payment of sales tax.......
Still, if you are in the area we would welcome you to our store.
Q: I just received the generator I purchased from you (Generac GP5500 - 5500 Watt Portable Generator) and it comes with a bottle of oil. It does not say on the bottle what type it is. 30 weight or 10w30? Do you know so that it is the proper oil to use for the current temperature. Thanks, Larry by Larry from Ohio on March 26, 2011
A: Generac uses 10W30 in their kits that get sent with the portable generators. by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Jim: I want to buy a protective cover for my Generac 5623 6500W portable generator (33.5" x 26.5" x 27.5"). Any recommendations for a cover that will fit this model of generator? by John G. Smith from Maryland on February 27, 2011
A: The Classic Accessories Large Cover will fit up to 8000 watts. We have tested these covers on all of the Generac GP model generators and other manufacturers.
Note: It is important to not include the wheels when measuring the width as the generator covers are not meant to cover them.
The GP line is the emergency home-use line of Generac. The 5626 (previously known as the 7000E- now discontinued) was made in the USA and has a full pressure oil lubrication system with a spin-on oil filter. This is an excellent, well built generator.
In recent years the competition has become the made in China generators with names such as PowerMate. These generators are inferior, but they are much less expensive. People often buy an emergency generator strictly on size and price, and as the market is the market, Generac was forced to outsource the manufacture of the GP line to China. Now only their more expensive XG and XP lines are made in the USA. In my view, they are worth it.
If I were to buy another generator I would pay up for one of the Generac models made in the USA such as the XG series. I have seen too many of these Chinese generators fail to start, have something fall off it, burn up, etc. to risk not having it available when a storm hits.
Hurricane Sandy put my Generac GP7000E to use for 9 days, shutting it off only at night and to change the oil and filter each 100 hours.
I also have the PowerMate 30 amp convenience cord and a Century Wire & Cable 25 foot extension. I bought them both on price, not quality and was not disappointed. They are serviceable and good for occasional use. The plastic is stiff, so the cords don't like to lie out straight.
If you want a real cord, buy the Gen-Tran. The rubber on them is superior as is the quality of the receptacles and even the plug. If you plan to use it outdoors to run a construction project or a lawn party, the safety of the Gen-Tran is the way to go

Generac Gp7000e
This is a very good generator with one mild warning. Trivial but it matters. Look at the air intake on this unit. It's at the bottom of the air cleaner facing slightly up. New England just got hit with the Halloween storm of ''11. We were out of power for five days. Day one, Saturday night I fire up the GP7000E. Ran rough for the first 3-5 minutes and then settled in at an even RPM. The loads were balanced and I didn't have much of a load in the first place. Then the RPMs dropped out to the point of brown out.
Shut everything off at the transfer switch and had less that 150 watt load3 light bulbs. Still it was dropping way out in RPMs. To make the story short. The only thing wrong was the snow was blowing in and getting sucked to the air cleaner. It got wet and in turn the motor became asthmatic. Generac should know these will be used in harsh conditions. I fab'd a plastic shield, plenty of room to breath yet it stops snow or rain from having a direct path. Bottom line, don't have the air cleaner facing the weather and you're good to go.
DO NOT put it up near the house for protection for obvious safety reasons. With a new (dry) filter, this thing is tops. Like I said, trivial until it happens to you - now you know. I would still very much recommend this unit and Generac in general. Good stuff.

Gp7000e Review
Very satisfied with my Generac gp7000e. I wanted a portable emergency generator with electric start and pressurized oil system that's made in USA. Received generator six days after I ordered. I paid $959 with free shipping (YES!) and No Tax (YESSS!). Generator says made in USA instead of assembled in USA (Yessss) No problems with EGD. Although I am overall 98% satisfied here are a few minor negatives:
oil filter-made in s. korea
battery charger-made in china
wheels- no country of origin but look very cheap. Looks like they came from a "dollar store"
manual is crap. ex: which postion is "choke"
I was all ready to order from amazon but read reviews saying amazon sent wrong one. Amazon misrepresents details in their description. Very glad I verified specifications on Generac.com . i received exactly what i ordered and wanted. Thanks to all review writers on amazon and EGD.

Great Generator, Slow Delivery
We used the check option, saved 2%. It may not be worth the wait if you need a generator now. It took 18 days from when the generator was ordered until it arrived. Some of the delay can be attributed to the end-of-year holidays, but if you order with a credit card your delivery is in 4 or 5 days.
Otherwise, once it arrived the assembly was easy. Somewhat confusing graphics, which don't show the user exactly how the handles go on. It is intuitive but if you don't pay attention it is easy to put them on upside down. The generator shipped with newer wheels (heavy-duty) which have an addendum for assembly.
One note: The generator ships with a quart of 30 wt oil. Recommended oil is 10W-30 for colder operations and synthetic 5W-30 for REALLY cold locations. I opted for 10W-30 synthetic. However, the oil capacity is 1.2 quarts and 1.5 including the filter. It would be nice if the real amount was included.
It started up in less than two seconds of cranking with the INCLUDED battery. It also starts easily using the recoil starter. Not too noisy, but you'll know you have a generator running when it's on.
Bonus: The box says "COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: U.S.A."

Customer Impressions
Generator arrived when expected.
Delivery was handled quickly and carefully.
Other than a contradiction between Owner's Manual and separate supplemental sheet for wheel assembly, instructions to prep and start generator were well explained and therefore easy to follow.
Generator startup easy.
Excellent customer service to followup on missing item in generator shipment.
Would recommend your company to others.
Thanks

A Tad Disappointed
Frame built & designed very well. Engine starts & runs smoothly (electric start). Upon firing it up I found that the output was only 110VAC at 3600 RPM & not 120VAC as advertised. My APC UPS on my electronics didn't like the low voltage.
Took it in to be looked at. The authorized dealer worked with GENERAC & said that he had to set the RPM up to 3770 to get 120VAC. I haven't picked it up yet so can't measure it myself. This is not as advertised. At 3770 RPM the gas usage will be greater & of course the wear & tear more. Also there is a gas vapor leak from the gas cap. Factory said that this is normal. Of course this lets gas vapors into my shop where it is stored when not in use. Also the service cost me $30.00 because adjustments are not covered by GENERAC. Might add more to this after I pick it up & test it myself.
EGD Responds: All engine driven generators operate at a “nominal” speed of 3600rpm which should yield a 120v +/- 5% output. These settings typically work for everyone considering that no-load voltages ranging from 110-120 are considered “US Averages”. Depending upon several ambient factors, and the given type of load you wish to power, the engines speed setting may need to be adjusted. This can be true with UPS’s that don’t compensate for input voltage ranges. In these cases, a person will want to adjust the no-load speed setting of the engines to produce 125-130vAC so that as the load is taken by the generator it then normalizes at or around the 115-120v window.

E-power On The Farm
I purchased the GP7000E online after the big box stores tried to tell me they had what I needed. My dealings with Electric Generators Direct had no surprises and the unit works great, especially the electric start.
I do have a problem with the shipping folks. Apparently the smallest delivery truck they have is an 18 wheeler and there was not way he could get to my house. So I had to pickup and unload myself, which wasn't that big a deal for me.
I've load tested the unit and it performs to spec. My wife accuses me of wishing for a snow storm for the real test.

Top Rated Generator
I wrote an email about what I wanted to do and received quick helpful information--that I used.
Ordered Generac generator model 5626, outside inlet box, and manual transfer switch with 10 interchangeable circuits.
Got ready to put it all together and needed the power cord for the generator and ordered it.
Got an electrician to put it all together. After it was all hooked up, it ran perfect.
Generac generators are top rated and I can clearly see why.
I would recommend this company.

Worked Just Great
Used my generator for the first time last week at our Rodeo. Stayed in my trailer for five days.
It started easily on the first try every day. I have the electric start and it worked just great.
I am very pleased with my generator.

Nice Working Generator But.....
The Generac Generator I Just Purchased Is a Nice Machine But I Figured That by This Time (2010) They Would Have Perfected a Muffler That Would Bring the Decibel Level Way Down.
the Least They Could Do Is to Sell Some Kind of Optional "Hush " Kit or Refer Their Customers to After-Market Manufacturers of Noise Reduction Devices For Their Product Line. I Asked and They Told Me That What You See Is What You Got, and Don'T Go Fooling Around With the Exhaust Because It Would Void the Warranty.
So Much For Progress and Seeking a Solution to the Noise Pollution.
Egd Responds: There Is Nothing Dainty About a 7,000 Watt Generator- It Takes a 410cc Engine to Run It, and That Is Going to Make Noise.
You May Be Able to Moderate the Amount of Noise by Choosing a Location That Doesn'T Echo; or Making a Sound Blocking /Deadening Screen to Place in Front of It (But Not So Close the Muffler Burns It).
Some Manufacturer's Will Post Decibel Ratings (Dba) For Their Units. For Reference, Standing 3 Feet Away From a Normal Conversation Is Usually About 60 Dba; the Average Vacuum Cleaner Is 70 Dba, and a Chainsaw Is About 120 Dba.

First, let me say that my purchase of the Generac 5626 GP7000E from Electric Generators Direct.com went extremely smoothly. I submitted one question prior to purchase, and they answered promptly in a most satisfactory way.
Shipment was quick and the generator arrived in good shape. Upon unpacking the Generac I was impressed by the apparent good quality of the machine. The wheels, handles and foot attached easily with the hardware provided and just a couple of ordinary tools.
Don’t let the non-pneumatic tires bother you, as they are all that is needed, unless you are going to be rolling this thing around all over the place like a wheelbarrow. I added the quart of oil shipped with the generator and found that the motor took slightly more than a quart to fill. There’s no dipstick as mentioned in the manual. Fill to the bottom of the threads of the filler opening, as indicated in lettering on the filler cap.
Next I added a gallon or so gas just to test the Generac. Here is where I found a slight problem. The fuel line connection beneath the tank was not tight at the hose clamp, and gas was dribbling out. It’s a good idea to always check fuel line connections, for to not do so could result in a fire under the gas tank….not a good situation!
Tightening the little hose clamp at the fuel shutoff valve solved that problem, but I was a little surprised that the manufacturer would overlook such a dangerous detail. Although I got the electric start version (GP7000E), I decided to try to pull start it just out of curiosity.
I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which the motor turned over with the rope. It was pretty much the same as pull starting the 4000 watt Coleman generator (8 hp) that this generator is replacing. Perhaps it has a larger starter pulley? At any rate, the Generac started right up on the second or third pull and ran smoothly and quieter than the old Coleman.
The electric starter worked fine also. I connected the Generac to my transfer circuit and gave her a little test to see how it handled the circuits in the house that this generator will have to support in a power outage. It looks like the GP7000E is going to handle them with ease.
The microwave, deep well pump, freezer, refrigerator all running at once did not bog the Generac down like they used to with the lighter duty Coleman. I do not use the generator for appliances that have heating elements.
I am quite pleased with this generator, although I cannot vouch for its durability at this point. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to incorporate in the fuel system a means to easily drain the gas tank. This is an essential maintenance practice for generators which are used only occasionally for power outages, and for some reason generator manufacturers do not address it. Probably it’s got something to do with lawyers, if you know what I mean.
If you’re in the market for a good generator, I can gladly recommend the Generac, made in the USA!

A Very Positive Experience
This generator and transfer switch arrived on time and in good condition. I have has very positive results from purchasing on-line.
The web page is very easy to navigate and the shipping is always prompt. I find your pricing very competitive and your product selection great.
From the first interaction on-line, to the great followup emails and tracking numbers, to the actual delivery- the experience was all positive.
This generator was shipped by common carrier and they were great. The early spring here in Maine has caused weight limits on many rural roads, so the trucking company went out of their way to coordinate the delivery.

This Generator Is Everything I Needed
I purchased the Generator back in Nov. 08, it is everything I needed.
It was easy to install the wheels and handles. I connected the red battery cable as instructed, filled with oil provided up to botton of threads, filled with gas, opened gas flow valve, pushed the choke to start position and this little GP7000E fired right up.
It runs smooth with no vibration, and the electric start is wonderful.
A few days later I conducted a test for performance in the event of a power failure. This Generac GP7000E never flinched: two rooms of lights, central heating unit blower, a refrigerator, a freezer, a computer & monitor, tv & VCR, AND the 18ft double wide garage door went up and down without any problem.
After having all the above on, this generator was running with ease and had plenty of power left.
I elected to get a USA Made generator. I called Generac before my purchase and they provided me with two local businesses that are authorized to perform service work and can order repair parts if the need to were arise.
