Q: Hi, Can you tell me if the Briggs & Stratton Model 30470 has Auto Voltage Regulation? by Bill Maher from New Jersey on August 27, 2011
A: Sorry, this model does NOT have auto voltage regulation.
That feature is usually reserved for the larger, more expensive generators. by Jim, Product Expert

Installing the Briggs & Stratton KIT
The product was delivered tailgate, which meant that the driver wheeled the generator up to the garage on a pallet. We slid the box off and the Pallet went with the driver, very convenient and the FOD inspection insured the generator arrived in good shape. You probably want to know about the Transfer switch included? It is similar in all respects to the Reliance Controls switch with the exception that the switch is heavier and more robust, it does has the two wattmeters on it and the instructions well decal-led on the product. The only downside if there was one was that the center breaker is not modifiable, that is to say if you want 30amp off of the center breaker then this is not the switch I would recommend. The switch I received was better than the one sold online or at Lowes which you can look at in person in the store. I saved easily the shipping charges by buying the kit with the generator. The switch with the kit is 15" x 15"
I suggest that you watch the following video carefully as the instructions are the same for any Transfer Switch installation http://www.reliancecontrols.com/Stream/ProTranInstall/ProTranPlayer_56k.aspx
It takes more time to get the switch mounted and your decision of circuits than the actual wiring of the switch into the panel. Use #10 or greater wire (if it is a long run) for the generator to the nema plug mount and housing, NOTE that that costs extra if you buy it online and not in a kit)
If the kit had come with the wire nuts to wire up the installation there would have been nothing additionally needed if the nema housing punches directly through an exterior wall. The cord was available with the unit but I suggest that you get one longer, I did. Placing the generator away from the house a bit is always a sound idea.
Generator itself, two adjustable wrenches and your assembled, takes a second person to lift while the wheels go on etc, my wife did it as the generator has a handle and that leverage makes moving the unit easy, you could do it yourself with blocks etc.. but we were done in 5 minutes. It takes longer to cut away the carton from the generator than to set it up. Put in oil but mark the level that was sent OEM on the container, plug in trickle charger which is included, add gas, and start.
It is not difficult again I highly recommend the installation video. If you do a meticulous job and when finished want the value of the work to be reflected in your home equity, take your time and do a neat installation. It should take two people no more than 3 to 4 hours if you are prepared. Make sure that the generator and the panel is appropriate for your needs, watch the installation video before buying a generator, and finally buy a quality name generator.
Have a siphon hose handy and remember to top off your cars and trucks before bad weather. Great kit and good value and I shopped for a long time before buying... I'm good I just hope I don't have to use it. I feel if you shop at this site and buy the kits when on sale you get the best $ on the internet if you are a new installation.

Much More Prepared For The Next Outage
I purchased my generator a couple days before Hurricane Irene hit the east coast. While the generator was not delivered until a couple days after the Hurricane due to weather delays it was delivered as promised. The delivery driver for R&L Transfers delivered the generator in excellent shape and waited until I opened the box and checked the condition of the contents before offering me the delivery invoice for signature.
Assembly of the generator (tires, battery cable, and oil) took about an hour. I added a little gas and it started right up, no problem. I ran and tested the generator with a load of a couple refrigerator freezers for 30 minutes and all went well. I have not had occasion to use the generator as of yet but I'm confident I'm much more prepared for the next power outage. I also received the 30 Amp power transfer switch which I have a friend who’s an electrician schedule to install in a couple weeks. Overall I have to say excellent customer service by both Electric Generators Direct and R&L Transfers
