1 Question
Q: Hi Jim: considering the B&S 7000 electric start portable generator but want to know what the operating DB level is. I didn't see it in the specs. by Dale from New Hampshire on January 23, 2011
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Briggs & Stratton, like many other generator manufacturers, do not publish the decibel ratings for their generators. This unit does come equipped with a Low Tone Muffler for Quiet Operation but, I don’t have a decibel number to give you. Currently, there are no industry standards or requirements for generator manufacturers to follow when testing their generators for noise. Due to this, manufacturers can test the noise level under any conditions they choose and, therefore, the results are not very reliable as each company will test under conditions that are favorable to their products. by Jim, Product Expert

My Story
I ordered this generator during the most recent snow storm in Massachusetts. I received it after my power was finally restored so I have not used it yet. But, I am very happy with this internet order. I accidentally ordered 3 generators and this company was smart enough to know I only wanted one. They did not ship 3 and I was not billed for three. I think they might want to select a different shipping company but overall I was satisfied with this order.

Great Generator
Easy to use. Love the 8250 Watt start up. Great on gas. Able to power pretty much a whole house. Starts first pull every time.

Very Disappointed
Having just been hit with a October 29th snow storm that knocked power out at my home in Connecticut for 9 days, I ordered this generator from Electric Generators Direct on Monday October 31st. Paid the rush delivery fee of $50, the sales person said the generator would be at a shipping company depot Wednesday or Thursday for my pick up. It finally showed up on Saturday. I got it home Saturday morning assembled it, gassed and oiled it and went to start it. Problem was that the pull cord didn't pull. This machine never ran while in my possession. Of course since it was Saturday and EGD and Briggs and Stratton were both closed I had to wait until Monday to speak with anyone. I did look on the Briggs and Stratton website for trouble shooting ideas. I tried the only thing listed, which was to remove the spark plug and see if that relieved pressure. No luck with that.
On Monday I spoke with a person at EGD, they returned the message I left on Saturday around lunch time on Monday. I consider their response time somewhat reasonable. Since the machine had been fueled I could not return it to them. My only option is to send it to a local repair shop.
So then I call the Briggs and Stratton service number and the local repair shop. Both of which quickly put the blame on EGD for selling repackaged equipment. Now that is all unsubstantiated, but the Briggs and Stratton guy said the repair shop will be able to tell if the machine was ever run. The repair shop will not touch the machine for at least 4 weeks from the time I bring it in. Which will be Saturday, so make that 5 weeks after I got the machine.
Will the repair shop be able to fix it? Is the engine siezed as both the Briggs and Stratton and Repair shop suspect? Will Briggs and Stratton or EGD make this right? I guess maybe sometime in December or January I might get the answer to that.
In the meantime, I'm going to go buy another generator so I don't get stuck without power at the next major storm which could happen long before this mess gets resolved. I will be buying a different brand and will be buying from a local dealer that will assemble and run the machine before I take delivery. I just don't see myself ever again buying gas powered machinery from an online company, or anyone that does not assemble and test the machine before delivery (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). I fully expect that EGD and/or Briggs and Stratton will make things right by me for this purchase, but in the end it is just not worth all of the additional work that I now have to go through for a machine that didn't work from day 1.
Very disappointing!! At least I have my power restored.
EGD Responds: First we would like to apologize that you experienced problems with your generator. We purchase all of our B & S generators directly from Briggs and Stratton and these are not repackaged models. This generator comes with a 2 Year warranty. Please consider contacting other repair shops, Briggs lists 25 dealers within 25 miles of your zip code.

100% Integrity
Bought two of these, one for our business, one for home after the power fiasco of Irene here in MD. Unfortunately the second one came in damaged. Upon communicating this, EGD replaced the defective unit within a week. Thanks Jim!

So Far So good
Everything went well with ordering and delivery of my generator. Started on 2nd pull and seemed to run well. Only thing I am concerned with the fact that the motor is not IC with a cast sleeve. Having researched the Briggs 1650 motor, the head is aluminum and is "Kool Bored" using their term. When ordered, I made the assumption that it would be an IC motor....... So far all reviews seem ok on it but I probably would feel more confident if it were an IC motor. I will be sure to change the oil and follow the manual maintenance schedule. It will only be used for emergencies so it should last for a long while!!

Delivery And Set up
Set up, meaning, checking oil, adding more...attaching the wheels and axles, all was simple. Even a cave man could do it. 200 lbs. was daunting, but a few blocks under the unit was simple with a little leverage. A one man job for sure. A few missing instructions were overcome by the logic of the assembly.
Added gas, pulled twice....after realizing that the gas line positioning of the shut-off was up to me to figure out, or maybe not as my eyes are bad, and that baby fired up like a Briggs should and usually does. I'm confidant that this unit will meet my crises needs and am calling tomorrow about the transfer kit with a few questions about distance from the outdoor positioning of the generator to the power panel. So far, I'm a proud owner.
Good job by you folks. Delivered intact, no damage, works great. It's my best friend for this 4500 Sq.Ft. house with a finished basement with a submersible pump. If it quits, I'm out $thousands. This unit looks like the pick-ups on NFL, taking care of business. Know what I mean?

Very Pleased!
Excellent product - started on the first pull. Shipper (R&L Carriers) also provided very good service - arrived when they said they would, and had a liftgate. Would recommend both the product and Electric Generators Direct to anyone.

Good Generator, Better Price, Best Customer Service
I executed my due diligence in researching my portable generator needs as the owner of a residential general contracting company. After searching the internet for the right generator at the right price, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Power Equipment Direct was located right in my backyard!
I headed to their warehouse, and was amazed at the on-hand selection, and the knowledge and thoroughness in which their sales staff addressed my needs, and answered (correctly, I might add) all of my technical questions regarding portable generators. They helped me make the best selection based upon what I was looking for, and their price could not be beat - even from anywhere else on the internet.
Another recent equipment purchase, before PED, was a professional grade pressure washer. I used to think Northern Tools was the only game in town for those kinds of equipment purchases. But now, going forward, Power Equipment Direct will be my first stop for all of my power equipment requirements. Thanks PED!

Home generator
Delivery man showed up when he was scheduled. He moved it down the driveway and into my garage. Took the box and packing off. Hooked the generator up to some old heaters as a load and it started on the first pull.
Ran great!

Q310C & Briggs 30468
Received the Q310C panel very quickly. The instructions were very good and I had it installed in about 2 hours. Half of that time was the mechanical mounting and flex conduit fit-up.

New Generator Works Just Fine
We received our new Briggs & Stratton generator, fired it up and it works just fine.
We have a manual transfer switch on the wall next to the main breaker box. We connected the generator up to the transfer switch via cable and switched the breakers on the transfer switch so that 6 circuits of the house were running on generator power.
Everything worked normally just as it should. We are ready for winter!
