Q: What do I need to consider when running a computer or LCD television off of my portable generator? I currently have a 10hp Briggs and Stratton powered Craftsman generator.

A: The main thing to consider is the entire load you are connecting to your generator. The rule of thumb is to size the generator to 80% of the running capacity of the generator so that it has enough flexibility when a large load kicks on (refrigerator) the generator has enough power to handle it and not have to struggle which keeps the ability to output good voltage. It is the voltage drops that can damage/hurt sensitive electronics so it is important to not overload the generators.

Didn't Need To Use...

I ordered the generator on Wednesday. Irene was due here by the weekend. The generator showed up on Friday, I had it together and ready to go in about 30 mins. Lucky for me the power never went out and I didn't need it.

Runs great easy to start 1st or 2nd pull. Very quiet! Have used it for a small construction job Saved alot of steps and the use of long cords for the saw.

Very Happy so far Just need that power inlet box that is on back-order and it will be ready to plug in for the next time I may need it.

Ready And Able For Irene

Hurricane Irene, East Coast, 3 days no power, 3 kids and wife.

Pros: You need two refrigerators and all lights, you got it. You need to run Water Heater and some lights, you got it. You need to run a microwave and all lights, fans, computer, ipods, well you got it with this model. Whatever i needed this generator for, it handled it. Even the ac on 30 amp switch at night. Quiter gen. around 70-75 db, not bad for back yard noise. Easy pull start, wife even handled it while i worked. Always good no air tires.

Best portable generator I have ever owned. Hooked it up to my house during the last hurricane and it had no problem running everything, including one ac unit (2 1/2 ton). Would recommend to everyone to at least have this one for standby if you do not want to buy a big standby whole home generator.
