I live in Houston, and bought one of these when Hurricane Rita faked us out a few years ago. As of Sept 13, 2008, it only had 16 hours of operation. Ike hit us for real and this generator has been running steady since the wind and rain stopped.
It has 250 hours now (Sept 23, 2008) and has been running constantly, except for oil checks. It has only used a few oz. of oil. The run time is much better (thankfully) than the specs say. It is only using .4 - .5 gallons per hour, (10 -12 hr. per tank), much better than the similarly sized gas generators my neighbors have.
Only one small problem occurred when one of the four long screws clamping the generator head to the face of the motor broke off at the nut. (Maybe a little too tight from the factory). It was easliy repaired quickly with a piece of threaded rod. The generator was never shut down for this.
